He chose dishonor: some thoughts on Jeff Flake retiring

Jeff Flake

I know you guys have been celebrating Jeff Flake’s sanctimonious announcement that he will not seek reelection.

And, sure, the news that Flake was calling it quits prompted an evil grin to blossom on my face.

In fact, I was poised to write a football-spiking post yesterday afternoon when the news broke.

But my gut told to me think it through.

And now that I have, I will share my thoughts on the news.

First of all, put aside his holier-than-thou “reasons” for choosing not to run.

They’re face-saving BS. You know it. I know it. And Jeff Flake knows it too.

The bottom line is Flake doesn’t want to be humiliated in a primary.

His choices were fight or dishonor. And – as is typical with quisling Republicans – Flake chose dishonor.

But beware. For Jeff Flake, the dishonor has just begun.

There is still more than a year before he leaves the Senate.

And now that he, like Bob Corker and John McCain before him, have no fear of facing an angry electorate again, Jeff Flake is free to attack, undermine and block the MAGA agenda with impunity.

Trust me. That is exactly what he plans to do.

Flake’s decision not to run again has far more to do with defying his constituents than “principles” or “conservatism.”

In fact, his decision not to face voters only confirms what we already know. He is without principles, honor, integrity or accountability.

US Senators are under the misguided notion that they are an Aristocracy not public servants or
temporary citizen legislators.

And the fact that the insolent, ungrateful people of Arizona would actually prefer electing a new Senator galls Flake like nothing else.

How dare they?!

We the People had the audacity to choose as our President a commoner who has no place among the aristocracy.

And in the intervening months between now and January 2019, Jeff Flake will pay us all back for that audacity.

Just like McCain.

And just like Corker.

As things stand right now, those three can bring the entire Senate to a screeching halt – where nothing gets advanced and no appointments get confirmed.

Now, free of facing angry voters, those three can do what they want. And what better way to pay us back for our insolence than standing in the way of the President?

It isn’t like they’ll pay the price at the ballot box.

Voters in their states can get as angry as they want. And it will matter to them about as much as June bug in July.

Flake chose dishonor.

And he will join McCain and Corker on cable news where bashing the sitting President will be regular sport. And where defying the will of the people is just an added perk.

So by all means celebrate the exit of one more useless so-called “Republican.”

But be prepared. Because for the next fourteen months Jeff Flake will make his exit as dishonorable as possible.

Flake is Scandinavian? I never knew. His complete lack courage made me think it is French.

Disclosure: My mother’s maiden name: Eugenie (said oou-zhen-aa) Maire Crappuchettes; so I an talk about “warriors” who march off to war with their hands on the back of their heads!

Dianny, it fascinates me that they call Trump “in-presidential.” Clinton went on Arsenio Hall’s show. Obama had an interview with the Fruit Loop woman. Apparently, even Republicans have been so destroyed by the left and the media that they want our guy to be stoic, take all the abuse, and not fight back—a la George W. Bush.

The hell with that. Trump may be unorthodox, but he is fighting the culture fight that no one else at that level has the balls to wage. Look at what he has done to the mainstream media, to the NFL, all while quietly working to dismantle the regulatory state. The rest of Congress really ought to get on board, see what is happening, and help him fight.

Silly me…I remember when Flake, McCain, and Corker espoused conservative principles. They are just pissed that people are paying attention and woke up to their lies.

Been away and playing catch up. Can the voters not do a recall on that FLAKE and remove his sorry azz if he starts McStain like tactics? If it’s 18 months til primary or whatever, surely they can recall him.
