In defending his pardon of Arpaio, Trump turns the tables on the news media

Yesterday in his joint press conference with Finnish President Niinisco, President Trump addressed the pig-pile over his pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Now, the other day, I said it is pointless to play the What-About Game with Leftists.

After all, Leftists know they’re hypocrites and they don’t care. So what’s the point of engaging in a “well, oh, yeah?” argument with them?

But if you are going to play the What-About Game, this is the way to do it – on national television in front of a room full of journalists hell-bent on disputing everything you say.

And by citing the questionable pardons of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, President Trump turned the tables on the news media.

Now — whether they want to or not — they are forced to defend Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich and Obama’s pardon of both Bradley Manning and Oscar López Rivera.

Let’s face it. That was a brilliant move.

And clearly, the news media has no good defense to offer.

Just take a look at what this CNN reporter tweeted out.

Oh, I see.

So Clinton and Obama issuing these Presidential pardons right before they scampered out the door somehow makes it nobler?

What in the name of sweet fancy Moses is her point?

Personally, I think the fact that Donald Trump did this eight months into his first term only proves that he isn’t afraid to make a call that will result in blowback. Whereas Clinton and Obama waited until the last minute so they could slink away before any blowback happened.

But if this is the best this CNN reporter can come up with to counter Mr. Trump’s brilliantly played defense, I think it’s fair to say he got the better of them.

President Trump backed these guys into a corner.

Now, they are being forced to make excuses for Bill Clinton selling a pardon to Marc Rich and Barack Obama releasing both an unrepentant terrorist and a traitor.

The truth is, there is no defense.

But because he called them to task live on national television, they are forced to find some way to defend the indefensible.

And the best they could come up with is, “But Obama and Clinton did it at the very end?”

That is just sad.

But that is classic Trump.

He knew he would be asked about this pardon. And he was prepared.

More importantly, he completely turned the tables on those reporters and effectively challenged them to defend previous pardons that are far more questionable and underhanded than his pardon of Joe Arpaio.

The news media will never learn.

No matter what they do – no matter how the try – at the end of the day, President Trump is still playing them like a fiddle.

Mr. Manning was/is a traitor to this country; Arpaio is an American patriot. Pretty simple.
