Look out, America.
Jennifer Lawrence is Democracy Girl – come to save America’s Democracy from corruption … and probably Donald Trump.
Now, who wants to tell Democracy Girl that first America would have to become a Democracy in order for her to fix our Democracy?
For Pete’s sake. How hard is it to get through the thick skulls of these clueless Leftists that the United States of America is a Republic?
Now, I’m going to level with you.
I wouldn’t be able to pick Jennifer Lawrence out of a line-up.
The fact is, I’ve never seen any of her movies and I don’t particularly give a crap what she has to say.
But what kind of a self-important, sanctimonious twit is she that she believes what America needs right now is for her to take a year off acting to “fix our Democracy?”
Of course what Jennifer considers “Fixing our Democracy” amounts to “activism” – the Community Organizer-style claptrap that Barack Obama made popular.
Said Jennifer as she ran for the nearest phone booth to transform into Democracy Girl:
“It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan [politics]. It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state by state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.”
“For anti-corruption and stuff!!!”
Wow. That line is almost as memorable as “To infinity and beyond!”
It isn’t our Republic that needs to be “fixed.”
If anything, what needs to happen is the American people need to get educated – about our system of government, check and balances, Separation of Powers, and of course our Constitution.
And I really don’t see Democracy Girl as the one who can contribute much in that respect – “stuff” nothwithstanding.
The problem with modern-day American activism is the activists really don’t know a damn thing about how our Republic works.
After all, they’re the ones who actually believe that Hillary Clinton is the “real” President because she “won” the popular vote.
And folks like that are part of the problem, not the solution.
So if I might. Jennifer, honey.
If you really want to get involved, take the year off to read. Start with the Federalist Papers. And if reading “stuff” from over two hundred years ago is confusing to you, I would recommend Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin.
And then tackle Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen’s excellent A Patriot’s History of the United States.
But if that’s just too much for you, you can always settle for Kevin R. C. Gutzman’s A Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution. Or, as I like to call it Constitution for Dummies: A Book Even Democracy Girl Could Understand.
