Government Censorship by Proxy

Say, remember all those folks defending social media censorship when Twitter and Facebook started banning conservatives?

“They’re private companies; they can do what they want! The First Amendment only applies to government, not to private companies!”

Yup.  Good times.

But what happens when said “private company” does a little government censorship by proxy?

Today it was reported that Facebook is censoring community groups that are organizing protests against state government’s Wuhan Panic overreach.

And why is Facebook censoring them?

Did Facebook just do it on a whim because “they’re a private company; they can do what they want?”

No.  Facebook was “instructed” to do it.

In other words, the governments of Nebraska, California, and New Jersey can’t infringe on their citizens right to peaceably assemble and “to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”  So they got Facebook to do it for them.

So much for being a private company.

Now, this kind of government censorship by proxy isn’t new to Facebook or Twitter.  It’s exactly what these American social media companies are doing at the behest of totalitarian regimes like China.

If China doesn’t want video of the Hong Kong protests showing up on Facebook, well, Facebook dutifully bans them.

If China doesn’t want those videos showing up on Twitter, Twitter willingly complies and shuts them down.

I guess these state governments figure, “Hey, they do it for China. So why not us?”

You’d be surprised how many people are actually defending this government censorship by proxy.  And they’re using the exact same “They’re a private company; they can do what they want” argument to defend Facebook letting state governments have a say in what appears on this “private company’s” site.

But once this supposed “private company” chooses to censor at the behest of the government, that argument flies out the window.

And it’s just the the constitutional implications of this that are mind boggling to me. Though, that’s enough in and of itself.

Government censorship by proxy is also a monstrously stupid and shortsighted move.

Are these guys completely clueless about the nature of humans?

You push us and we will push back.

That’s not just the human nature.  It’s nature in general.  Hell, it’s science.  It’s Newton’s Third Law of Motion.

For every action, there is an equal, opposite reaction.

You’d think the so-called “party of science” would comprehend that.

Do these idiots in New Jersey, California and Nebraska really think getting Facebook to engage in a little government censorship by proxy will be met with no pushback?  Are they really that obtuse?

It isn’t enough that these state governments are imposing draconian orders on their citizens.  Now they want to shut them up for speaking out against these orders.

And they really think Americans are just going to lie down and take it?

Man, they did not think this through.

And it is so going to backfire on them.

In ’05 I understood Facebook was thick with the Bush/Clinton gang. I killed it on my machine. Have advised all my friends + kin to do the same.
But my kin know I went to detention many times 64 – 60 years ago for defending the “White Nationalist” Ike and his “Operation Wetback” from “teachers” – so all except my brother ignore me. OK
I still have not used – in over 15 years.

My wife and I have never been on any social media, never will…. and this is one of the big reasons why. Only one of our four grown kids agrees with our approach and refuses to participate. If any of the others complain about Facebook’s fascism, I just remind them it’s a choice they make.

I hope people not only protest their state governments but they give Facebook the boot as well.

Not only am I not on the platform, I’m starting to leave me cellphone at home. I’m getting ready for contact tracing.

This is just part of the “New Normal” (aka: Socialism) that all the talking heads are spouting. Under the cover of this “plandemic,” socialists and their acolytes (e.g., media) have been successful in locking us down indoors (with neighborhood snitches), restricting our Constitutional freedoms (with police complicity), and destroying our economy – all in the name of health. We are being robbed of our ability to take care of our daily necessities (shortages and the move to go cashless – no longer in control of your money) while being demoralized with fear and panic until the miracle vaccine arrives (the one that will track us under ID2020 and make Gates and Big Pharma trillionaires). The socialists see us, the people, as that frog from our old high school science class: you know the one you placed in boiling water and it jumped out, but by placing the frog in cool water and gradually increasing the heat the frog would just sit in the water until it boiled to death. Is it un-American to ask “what’s the water temp now?”

Just try deleting your Facebook account. Just try. And good luck with that.

Anyone notice the protests are peaceable, no rioting etc…. If some of the state and local governments keep the people down there will be a point when we as Americans will no longer be peaceable. Another thing, do I have to hear 24 hour coverage of an illness that just so happens to infect people. Cancer gets no coverage, plus others. Give me a break, the media is stoking the fire.

Some leftists and not all Dem pols may be further revealing some of their intentions for America. Maybe now is not the time, you opportunistic __________ !!

For me, it’s important to be safe — AND it might be possible to PUSH BACK against the overreaching usual suspects that would fundamentally change America into something that I’m quite sure would be repugnant
