Happy Adopt-a-versary!

Adopt-a-versary-01

Today is the seventh Adopt-a-versary of my beautiful pitbull Mary of Bethany.

And I couldn’t let the day go by without mentioning it.

Seven years ago, this stinky little puppy was found wandering the streets of Solvay by a good Samaritan who delivered her to Fairmount Animal Hospital.

And lucky for me, a friend of mine works there. So she sent me a text letting me know about the filthy little pup.

The next morning, I drove up to meet her.

It was love at first sight for both of us.

Just look at those bat-ears!

She was a bundle of energy and her tail wagged like crazy when we met. And despite the fact that she smelled like a Port-a-Potty, I hugged the stuffing out of her.

(Then smelled like her for the rest of the day).

I let them know I wanted to adopt her. But we had to wait five days to make sure she wasn’t claimed.

Then, on October 22, 2010, I brought her home.

In honor of our seventh Adopt-a-versary, Mary enjoyed roasted chicken breast for breakfast this morning. And the cats were not happy about that.

She’s grown into such a terrific dog. And, thankfully, smells so much better than the day we met.

Mary is the joy of my life. And I can’t imagine what life would be like without her.

Happy Adopt-a-versary, Dianny! We snared a pup before he was sent to a shelter almost 2 years ago. He’s, as our Vet puts it, an All American dog. We’d have to do DNA to find out what, but think maybe boxer, pitt, border collie? Brindle with white accents and an attitude. Love our lives too.

Your post takes me back to when our poodle, Chi Chi, died. The Vet had a stray with tags, but couldn’t locate the owner. He thought at the time maybe the owner died. He was a severely matted, stinky, dirty Lhasa Apso. We named him Durty Hairy. He didn’t want to stay in the house and actually chewed the trim at the bottom of the door to get out. Ate caterpillars. A real on my own road dog. After a short period, he was ‘home’. What a character. Thanks for sharing your adoption of Mary of Bethany.

    Oh that dog is adorable!

I adopted a little ragamuffin four years ago and I love her dearly.
