I can’t let the day go by without wishing a happy birthday to my forever friend Mary of Bethany.
Mary is a pitbull mix who was found wandering the streets of Solvay as a pup in the fall of 2010. She was four months old and very stinky.
But a good Samaritan spotted her, picked her up and took her to the Fairmount Animal Hospital where a friend of mine works.
My friend knew that I was considering getting a new dog. So she texted me a picture of Mary and asked if I was ready.
My last dog Bailey had died four years earlier and I was ready to adopt another. I kept telling my friends that when the right dog came along, I would know.
And here she was!
So I texted her back and said, “YES!” The following morning, I drove up to Fairmount Animal Hospital and met the stinky, spazzy pup for the first time.
On October 22, 2010, I brought her home for the first time.
Now, I don’t know when Mary was born. But since the vet said she was four months old, I made June 22, 2010 her birthday.
Let me tell you, Mary is my best friend – my forever friend.
Her favorite thing in the world is to hop up on the couch and curl up next to me.
Mary is fiercely loyal, deeply loving and loads of fun.
She is the House Protector – not to mention the only animal in the world who can herd cats.
I can’t imagine life without her.
