I thought it might be beneficial to do a little compare and contrast between Barack Obama’s relationship with the press and Trump’s.
When CNN’s Jim Acosta wasn’t called on to ask a question during Trump’s press conference, he decided to stand up and begin shouting at President-Elect Trump – demanding that he be allowed to ask a question.
And Trump slapped him down like a bothersome gnat.
The reaction from the Enslaved Press was swift. The pearl-clutching bastards began howling their outrage over one of their own being treated so shoddily by the President-Elect.
None of them seemed at all dismayed at how shoddily Acosta behaved.
Nope. Not one bit.
Even Fox News’ Shepherd Smith fluttered his wet hen wings and scolded Mr. Trump for “belittling” and “demeaning” Acosta.
Now, let’s compare this to an event that occurred on July 15, 2015 at an Obama Press Conference on the Iran nuclear deal when Obama called on CBS News’ reporter Major Garrett.
Here’s the exchange:
Major Garrett: “Thank you, Mr. President. As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran, three held on trumped-up charges according to your administration and one whereabouts unknown. Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?
Notice Garrett didn’t stand up and start screaming a question. He didn’t talk over Obama or shout him down. He just asked the question.
But Garrett continued:
”And last week the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said under no circumstances should there be any relief for Iran in terms of ballistic missiles or conventional weapons. It is perceived that that was a last-minute capitulation in these negotiations. Many in the Pentagon feel you’ve left the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff high out to dry. Could you comment.”
And Obama’s response is about what you’d expect, isn’t it?
He got defensive and played the victim. Which, of course, enabled him to avoid actually answering the question.
Obama: (smiling) “I gotta give you credit, Major for how ya craft those …uh… those questions. First the notion that I’m content … as I celebrate … with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails? (pause) Major, that … eh … that’s nonsense. And you should know better. I’ve met with the families of some of those folks. Nobody’s content.”
But unlike the their reaction to Trump’s dismissal of Acosta, the Enslaved Press did not come to the defense of Garrett.
No. They immediately sided with Barack Obama and chided Garrett for having the temerity to ask that question.
Chief among Garrett’s critics was Acosta’s own network, CNN.
They were beside themselves.
CNN’s Gloria Borger was in high dudgeon over Garrett’s “disrespectful” behavior:
I’ve been a White House reporter, you’ve been a White House reporter… You know what it’s like to stand up and ask the president a question — and you do want to be tough. But there’s a fine line — especially standing in the East Room — a fine line between asking a tough question and maybe crossing that line a little bit, and maybe being disrespectful. So I think that that happened there.
Go ahead. Watch that video again.
Major Garrett did not shout. He did not talk over Obama or refuse to stop talking. More to the point, he was called on by the President himself.
His question was tough, but it was hardly disrespectful.
What CNN objected to was the fact that Garrett’s question wasn’t a softball that Obama could use to puff himself up.
After all. That’s what the Enslaved Press believes their job is when it comes to Barack Obama.
Jim Acosta, on the other hand, acted like a complete prick – shouting over Mr. Trump, refusing to sit down.
Yet as far as the Enslaved Press is concerned, Acosta is the wronged party and Trump a great, big meanie.
Lord, these people are such transparent hypocrites.
Imagine if Jim Acosta had behaved that way in an Obama press conference.
Good heavens, Gloria Borger would have imploded.
These idiots seem to forget that the Internet is forever.
Their behavior over the last eight years has not gone unnoticed by us.
And their righteous indignation over how Donald Trump treats them isn’t nearly as effective as they hope because their behavior over the last eight years hasn’t gone unnoticed.
What these morons fail to grasp is Trump is not the one who is a threat to a Free Press in America.
These sycophants who bent over backwards to shield and promote Obama were responsible for the crippling of the American Free Press.
CNN and every other news outlet that likewise shielded Hillary Clinton in an effort to get her elected are responsible for crippling the American Free Press.
Not Donald Trump.
As I’ve said a thousand times before. They willingly enslaved themselves.
The destruction of honest journalism can be laid at their own sorry feet.
And watching them pay the price for their own disregard for their profession is all manner of entertaining.
