Because Los Angeles has oodles of cash to spare, they’ve decided to cover many of their streets with a white asphalt sealant.
Yeah. They’re literally whitewashing the streets.
From the Daily Mail:
City officials in Los Angeles are on a quest to reduce the effects of climate change by painting some of its streets in a light-colored, heat-reducing sealcoat.
The product, called CoolSeal, is a ‘water-based asphalt emulsion sealcoat designed to reduce surface temperatures and help mitigate heat islands,’ the company website, GuardTop states.
And how much does this whitewashing cost?
Hang on to your eyewear.
Forty thousand dollars a mile.
How many miles of roadway are in the city of Los Angeles? And how much will undergo this expensive whitewashing?
With rising temperatures predicted to keep occurring, the measures could be also be crucial to prevent heat exhaustion, heat stroke and heat-related fatalities.
While increasing the number of vehicle-related fatalities.
Because instead of absorbing that sunlight, this whitewashing will make sunlight bounce right back in your face.
Can you imagine the glare?
As if LA drivers need another obstacle for getting around town.
But I’m sure the folks at Oakley, Oliver Peoples, and Ray-Ban are thrilled with all the potential new business.
Call me crazy, but this seems like an insane waste of money for a city with an exploding homeless problem and overburdened welfare system thanks to all the illegal aliens.
But hey. At least when they take a crap on the street it will stand out more.
