I was far too angry yesterday to write about the acquittal of Kate Steinle’s murderer to write about it.
Not since the OJ murder trial has a jury so abdicated its responsibility out of slovenly love for a defendant.
So instead of writing a furious, scathing – more than likely profanity-laced – screed, I decided to watch the final episode of the 5-part story from this season’s Major Crimes.
In hindsight, maybe I shouldn’t have done that since it did nothing to cool my anger.
After all this 5-part storyline from Major Crimes was titled “Sanctuary City.”
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about this spin-off of Kyra Sedgwick’s The Closer. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, it’s the third time.
I wrote about their episode “Targets of Opportunity” about a young illegal alien so-called DREAMer who was a witness to the murder of two LAPD officers. (And I wasn’t kind.)
And I wrote about their episode “Foreign Affairs” which ostensibly was about an ISIS killing that ended up being a “let’s bash American veterans as Islamophobic criminals” episode. (I was even meaner that time.)
But I kept watching Major Crimes because overall, I like the characters and enjoy the show. Though I’m not too fond of its writers.
In fact, it is the only TV show currently airing that I watch. Since I don’t have cable, I haven’t seen any TV in nearly five years. But I always sign up for the Apple iTunes Season Pass for Major Crimes.
When “Sanctuary City” first began five weeks ago, I decided to hold off on writing about it until the 5-part episode came to a close. And that happened the night before Kate Steinle’s illegal alien murderer was acquitted in Sanctuary City San Francisco.
Talk about bad timing, Major Crimes.
So, here goes.
Note: If you haven’t watched and plan to watch, there are probably spoilers in the following. So be warned.
Here’s the plot.
Three Latino Catholic School boys go missing during a school trip. And though there is no indication it is a kidnapping or critical missing, the Deputy Chief assigns the case to Major Crimes.
Because, after all, if they were three rich white boys …. And you know the rest.
Two of the boys are citizens, one is an illegal alien (or, as Major Crimes faithfully put it “a DREAMer.”).
And, even if you haven’t seen it, I’m betting you can imagine just what kind of virtue-signaling, sanctimonious lecturing that kind of storyline can cram in.
Hey, why do you think it was a five-part episode?
Trust me. It certainly wasn’t because the plot was so complex it couldn’t be done in one hour.
So, let’s give you a peek at the cast of characters.
There are the parents of the missing boys. The successful orthopedic surgeon and his attractive wife. Plus the single-mother whose dead second husband was a cartel member. And then the illegal alien family.
In addition to that, there were two Latino priests from the Catholic school.
Then we have the two FBI agents who are cocky, ignorant blow-hards who think the illegal alien family is responsible for the missing boys. And of course they keep beating the drum about deporting them.
And naturally this gives our sanctimonious heroes of Major Crimes the perfect opportunity to lecture all of us about the importance of a Sanctuary City and its ability to maintain trusting relationships with the “undocumented community.”
But that’s not even the worst part.
Then there are the four white characters. And here’s where the writers of Major Crimes really jumped the shark.
There’s a sixteen year-old girl who lives next door to the illegal alien family. And it turns out she was dating the surgeon’s son. But her father didn’t approve. She’s painted as rather sympathetic — a poor minor under the thumb of a domineering bigot of a father. And, naturally, she’s homeschooled (gotta get that dig in too, don’t they?)
Her father is a loudmouth, “anti-immigrant extremist” who wants to build the wall and has his own website called “unhyphenated American.”
He is constantly calling ICE to have his illegal alien neighbors deported. And, get this, at his front door he has a sign that reads, “This house is protected by the Second Amendment.”
Subtle, isn’t it.
But wait! There’s more!
On this guy’s website are hours of video of him firing off a gun and talking about “Mexican’ts” and building the Wall.
All that was missing was a Make America Great Again hat and someone referring to him as “Alt Right.”
He is played by Leftist actor James Morrison who, of course, played up the racist, xenophobic Trump supporter to the hilt. I mean, the guy was chewing up the scenery.
But of course he was.
Major Crimes wasn’t going to take any chances that the audience not get the message that Trump supporters are all racist, gun-toting extremists who homeschool their children to keep them away from undesirable foreigners (and thugs — read black people).
After one of the three boys turns up dead outside of the Catholic church, Major Crimes decides to pay a visit to the crazy white man. And as Lt. Provenza pleads with him because one young boy is dead, the not-so-subtle example of Trump supporters says, “You call it a tragedy, but I call it a good start.”
This overt attack against half their audience was about as subtle as a heart attack.
You’d have to be a borderline retard not to see all the unbelievable slams not only against Trump supporters, but the President’s hardline on immigration and Sanctuary Cities.
For example, throughout, the FBI agents keep trying to explain that they’re simply following federal law. And boy are they apologetic about it. They keep adding the caveat “this isn’t about my personal views, but…”
The third white character is the killer.
He’s rich, white and successful.
Bet you didn’t see that coming.
And then there’s the final white character.
Hold on to your hats. Because if you thought they were unsubtle already, it does get worse.
Virtually every act of the five-part series includes segments of newscasts about the high-profile missing case. Each reporter or anchor refers to the illegal family as “undocumented” and the illegal boy as “DREAMer” except one.
And the one who doesn’t? The white guy.
And the cable news outfit he works for? FPX.
Yeah, that’s how hard they tried to disguise FOX – by changing the O into a P.
Good grief. When I realized what was going on, I actually guffawed at the incredible stupidity of it.
But I’m sure when the writers cooked up this anti-Trump 5-part episode they felt all kinds of puffed up and sanctimonious.
It’s just their dumb luck that it reached its conclusion the night before Kate Steinle’s murderer was acquitted. They really picked the wrong time to promote Sanctuary Cities.
It’s as if the cosmos was offering a real-life counterpoint to their fictional drivel.
And as I watched the final episode last night, I couldn’t help but think of this:
