I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Mitt Romney is starting to get nervous that his carpet-bagging Senate campaign isn’t going quite as he hoped.
Though, to be fair, I think his first clue was coming in second in the Utah Republican Convention in April.
But now the man who famously referred to Donald Trump as a fraud is now proudly declaring that Trump will solidly win reelection in 2020.
You see, Mitt discover that this “phony” and “fraud” that he strenuously urged Republicans to reject isn’t a phony or fraud after all.
Funny how he discovered that when he’s desperately trying to win a primary against a Trump-supporting Utah resident.
“I think that not just because of the strong economy and the fact that people are going to see increasingly rising wages,” Mitt opined. “But I think it’s also true because I think our Democrat friends are likely to nominate someone who is really out of the mainstream of American thought and will make it easier for a president who’s presiding over a growing economy.”
“I think it’s also true because I think?”
Good grief. Such a way with words.
Yes, this coming from the man who, in March of 2016 said of Donald Trump:
”So even though Donald Trump has offered very few specific economic plans, what little he has said is enough to know that he would be very bad for American workers and for American families.
”But you say, wait, wait, wait, isn’t he a huge business success? Doesn’t he know what he’s talking about? No, he isn’t and no he doesn’t.”
I guess we can lump Mitt Romney in with Hillary and Obama when it comes to totally misreading the tea leaves.
Why after two years of stomping all over Donald Trump is Mitt trying to leap onto his coattails?
Well, aside from the fact that Mitt is afraid he’ll lose the Republican primary in Utah?
He’s a flipper. That’s why. He’s an opportunistic flipper.
And if he does manage to eke out a win, he’ll flip right back to being the fussy NeverTrumper that he really is.
Mitt is about as hard to read as a pop-up book.
It was less than four months ago when Mitt released his “I’m running for Senate in Utah” video on Twitter in which he made sure to bash President Trump.
But then again, that was before he came in second at the Utah Republican Convention.
So naturally Mitt the flipper is flipping and now praises President Trump.
Because Mitt Romney is a flipper.
And just like John McCain, Jeff Flake, or any of the other Establishment Republicans, he will say one thing to get your vote and then once he’s elected, he’ll flip you off.
