Silly Journalism

Say, did you know if a reporter goes out among the voters to find out what we think about President Trump it’s silly journalism?

Who knew?!

You’d think reporters would want to know what voters think. But I guess they’re still too busy talking to each other.

Back in January, Steve Bannon did an interview with the New York Times where he said:

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while.”

Remember that?

Oh, how these “journalists” howled in self-righteous indignation.

How dare Steve Bannon try to silence us?! See?! Trump is trying to shut down a free press!!! Oh, the HUMANITY!!!

Only, Bannon was right.

At the time, in my column In love with the sound of their own voices, I wrote:

He’s spot-on.
24-hour cable news outlets covered the 2016 election obsessively.
A parade of pundits sat spouting off all their thoughts about what would happen, how Hillary would win, and how Trump was imploding.
They were so busy being mesmerized by the sound of their own voices, they didn’t even care to listen to what actual voters had to say.
As a result, they completely missed what was going on.

In the column, I give an example of one journalist who did it right – Salena Zito.

Zito was a reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who now writes for the Washington Examiner and the New York Post.

During the 2016 election, while her colleagues stayed firmly inside their bubble in New York and DC, Zito traveled the rust belt and spent time with these working class Americans the Enslaved Press doesn’t give a damn about.

Her reports on the ground gave her the perfect picture of what was going on outside of the New York/DC media bubble.

And, while the rest of her colleagues were smugly declaring Hillary the inevitable victor, Zito was cautioning, “Not so fast, gang.”

They were all wrong.

Salena Zito was spot-on.

Now, back to my post from January:

These idiots are so in love with their own voices, they deliberately misunderstand Bannon’s obvious point just so they can listen to themselves sputter in outrage while they play the victim.
They really don’t get it.
And they never will.
The truth is, the Enslaved Press doesn’t want to listen and learn what the American people really think.
They have a narrative to advance. And unless we all fall in lock-step with that narrative, they are never going to take the time to listen to what we have to say.

Well, apparently that still holds true today.

I follow Salena Zito on Twitter – mostly so I know when her latest article is out. And I happened across an exchange between her and ABC News correspondent Matthew Dowd.

Here is what Dowd tweetted:

Forgive my bluntness, but what a condescending asshole.

See, this is exactly why all these idiots were completely blindsided by Trump’s victory in November.

They do not care what we think.

And, according to Dowd, wanting to know what actual living, breathing voters think is silly journalism.

Apparently for him, “unsilly” journalism is doing man-on-the-street interviews outside of his office.

Personally, I call that lazy journalism.

But Zito’s response is perfect.

But she wasn’t done.

And this is why the Enslaved Press will once again get it wrong, you guys.

Because, unlike Zito – who spent the last several weeks once again traveling through rust belt states – “journalists” like Dowd refuse to take the pulse of the American people. Unless of course they either live or work in Manhattan.

God forbid he sacrifice a little shoe leather and actually find out what’s going on in the rest of the country.

I mean, it worked so well for them during the election, didn’t it?

They deliberately misunderstood what Bannon was saying back in January. And now they are continuing to prattle on to each other within their echo-chamber while completely ignoring the American people.

From deep within their hermetically-sealed bubble, they think their constant attacks on President Trump are eroding his support among voters.

You would think they’d want to venture out and see if all these relentless attacks are actually having the desired effect.

But no.

That would be silly journalism.

I have friends who are panicking as if Trump is on the ropes and about to go down because of what they heard on the “news”. I ask if they are wavering in their support and the answer is always no, the Russian story is garbage, the media is just reporting bad stuff to make Trump look bad, etc.

So if you aren’t wavering, your buddies you talk aren’t wavering, then why are you panicked by what CNN or MSLSD is babbling about? They are a joke and you are right, they don’t listen to what any American has to say that lives outside the coastal states, Chicago and New England. They have no clue. Trump rallies are still packed, unlike Hillary who always had more press in attendance than actual fans.

I know my family is reacting the same way you described many Trump supporters. I think that there is going to be a giant wave of Republican support in 2018. “THE RUSSIANS” is not a good strategy and the Democratic Party is dead. You’re hearing the final gasp of rigor mortis.

Dowd’s avatar is a flag that says “Country over party,” but he doesn’t appear to give a damn about the country, or at least the large swaths of it that see things differently than he does. Country over party? Nope. More like ideology uber ales.
