If you are a regular reader to Patriot Retort, you may recall my writing about the Syracuse Mayoral race back in November.
Radical far-Left Democrat Juanita Perez Williams lost in a landslide against Independent candidate – and now Mayor – Ben Walsh.
Perez Williams believed she was a shoe-in because Syracuse is, as I like to say, so blue it looks oxygen-deprived.
Toward the end of the race, the Democrats knew they were in trouble. National figures like Joe Biden and Kirsten Gillibrand were solicited to come to Syracuse and campaign for Perez Williams.
It didn’t matter.
She lost by 16 points.
Afterward, my brother asked me, “Do you think we’ve heard the last of her?”
Of course not, I told him. My guess at the time was she would run against Republican Congressman John Katko in 2018.
The way I explained it to Mark is Juanita Perez Williams is our own Kamala Harris – an empty suit radical Leftist and political climber. There is no way she won’t run against Katko.
I was certain of it.
So imagine my surprise when several weeks ago, the area Democrat Party selected Syracuse University Professor Dana Balter to challenge Katko in November.
I was stunned. How could I be so damn wrong?! Honestly, I really thought Juanita – being the little climber that she is – would throw her Che-hat in the ring.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) stuck their nose in NY District 24 and defied local Democrats by urging Perez Williams to challenge Balter in the June Democrat primary.
Local Democrat officials are furious.
They released a statement expressing their dismay:
The recent DCCC actions in NY24 are unfortunately just the latest example (see PA-7, TX-7, PA-16 & a half dozen others) of not taking into account the work happening at the grassroots this year. From people engaged for the very first time this year, to party and elected officials we stand united behind our designated nominee Dana Balter and against the DC meddling that has hampered far too many races thus far. We call on DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) and all staff involved to speak to the people doing work on the ground and focus our collective energy and resources, like we have been for over a year, in unseating Trump-Ryan Republicans like John Katko.
I’m sorry. Katko didn’t endorse Donald Trump in the general election against Hillary Clinton. He is no Trump Republican. He’s your typical New York blue, squishy RINO.
Today, thanks to the meddling DCCC, Juanita officially declared her candidacy for Congress.
From CNY Central:
“This race is just too important for folks in Central New York and I couldn’t sit on the sidelines. I am proud to put my name forth and get in the fight,” Perez Williams said in a release. “As a mother, veteran, and someone who worked my way up from poverty I am not afraid to stand up and fight for what I know is right. That is what makes me the best candidate to beat Rep. Katko in November, and finally give the people of Central New York a representative that will work on their behalf.”
In a release, Perez Williams’ campaign said the candidate is working to gather 1,250 signatures that she’ll need to get on the ballot. Those signatures are due on April 12.
Now, keep in mind, Katko won in 2016 with 61% of the vote.
In addition to that, President Trump carried every county in District 24 except Onondaga – where Syracuse is located – mostly because of Syracuse.
And yet Juanita Perez Williams couldn’t even win the city of Syracuse when she ran for mayor.
I can see why the local Democrat Party is not happy.
Outside of Syracuse and some parts of Onondaga Country, Juanita’s particular brand of California-style “progressivism” isn’t going to fly.
It seems to me the biggest obstacle to this so-called “Blue Wave” is the DC Democrat Establishment.
Forcing candidates into congressional races when they don’t reflect the views of voters isn’t the smartest move.
But then again, neither is Nancy Pelosi announcing they’ll raise our taxes if they get the majority.
Democrats never know how to get out of their own way.
But Perez Williams has the only qualifications that matter to the DNC. She’s a woman. And she’s brown.
That’s it. That’s all you need to be promoted by the National Democrat Party.
Now, it’s possible Perez Williams won’t win the primary.
But given the fact that she has the full financial support of the DCCC, she may just be able to shove herself over the finish line on money alone.
And even if she does lose, she won’t go away.
Like I said, Juanita is a little climber who as yet still hasn’t gotten on the first rung of political power.
And by golly! She’s going to get on that ladder if it’s the last thing she does!
My guess is if she loses in the primary (or in the 2018 Midterms), Juanita will be back in 2021 to challenge Mayor Walsh once again.
That’s the problem with political opportunists.
They never go away.
