I know Alexandria Occasionally-Confused likes to think Republicans are scared of her.
But the fact is, she’s wrong.
Which, to be fair, is a regular occurrence for the Upstart Socialist from the Bronx.
If Alexandria is so eager to be seen as a cause of nervous antipathy, she really has to look a bit closer to home.
The people whose feathers are getting ruffled by this upstart come from her own party.
First, consider Alexandria’s frustrated and angry Twitter thread about Amazon getting oodles of tax breaks in exchange for placing half of its new headquarters in Queens.
She flatly opposes the deal because Amazon is already rich and shouldn’t get such a sweetheart deal from New York.
And while some of her arguments are valid, her “solutions” aren’t solutions at all.
You’re right, Alexandria. This isn’t about Amazon or any one company.
For you, it’s how best to undermine capitalism and free markets by using otherwise valid community concerns.
This is your socialist war on America.
And it will be stopped. https://t.co/rY8xocfrJ3

But here’s the problem.
The Upstart Socialist is raging against those in her own party.
Who bent over and offered this “deal” to Amazon? Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio and Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo.
And in her single-minded quest to turn all private employers into government-mandated wealth-redistributors, Alexandria is butting up against the Democrat Establishment and their corporate cronies.
As Thomas Lifson pointed out this morning at American Thinker, Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t understand Dem corporatist strategy:
It is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s glory and burden that she actually believes all the slogans that progressives mouth. She hasn’t yet realized that the Democratic Party coalition has a senior partner, of the ultra-wealthy corporate elite that provides campaign funding and institutional support, and a junior partner, the poor and minorities, the electoral cannon fodder who provide votes and (lately) mobs, and get freebies from the government in return. The junior partners get noisy public support (aka, “lip service”) from the Dem politicians, but the senior partners get the goodies – the regulations, subsidies, and tax breaks – mostly in private.
Clearly Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t know who calls the shots in the Democrat caucus. And either due to naïveté or arrogance, the Upstart Socialist seems oblivious to the fact that she will be expected to play ball.
And something tells me Pelosi and the Democrat Establishment aren’t particularly happy with Ocasio-Cortez joining a protest outside of Nancy’s office.
Sure, Pelosi might toss her a crumb by publicly patting her on the head. But when it comes to Congressional Democrats, the real action takes place behind closed doors.
So the Upstart Socialist could find herself running afoul of her own party’s establishment.
As the old saying goes, payback’s a bitch. And in the Democrat Congress, that bitch is Nancy Pelosi.
And if the Democrat Establishment is unable to contain or control the Upstart Socialist and her anti-Semitic gaggle of fellow-socialist newcomers, those newcomers just might find themselves marginalized and relegated to insignificant roles in Congress.
The Democrat Party’s reliance on large, multi-billion-dollar corporate largesse is too great to tolerate such insolence from an Upstart Socialist.
Rush Limbaugh summed it up perfectly on his show yesterday:
Freshmen are brought into the offices of the speaker and the leaders of their party, and they’re given the lay of the land.
“You like being here? You like winning the election?”
“You want to stay here, get reelected?”
“Oh, yeah, yeah.”
“You want to eventually have a meaningful committee appointment, maybe even a chairman?”
“Oh, yeah, yeah.”
“Well, then you’ve got to do everything we say your first term. You vote the way we tell you to vote, you vote when we tell you to vote, you say what we tell you to say when you vote the way we tell you to vote. And if you do that, everything’s gonna be fine. We’ll make sure you get reelected or at least get a lot of money to run your reelection campaign. We’ll support you. But if you do not follow through on our instructions, then you’re finished! You’re not gonna be here after one term. We’re gonna see to it that you lose.”
That still happens. It happens on both sides. It happens on the Republican side, too, to a certain extent.
Can you imagine Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in all of her publicly raging ignorance, can you imagine her in that meeting being talked to that way? Can you imagine her being acquiesce and say, “Oh, sure. Okay.”
That’s not gonna happen. She’s gonna fire back at ’em, “Who are you to tell me how to vote? You’re the past. You don’t know what’s going on. You don’t even know why I got elected. You don’t even know how I got elected. Screw this! I’m voting for my people. I’m voting for what I think is right. It’s your turn to get out of the way. Hell, who are you?”
I think he’s right. And his reasons are spot-on.
The Socialist Upstart and her cohorts really do believe they are smarter, wiser and better than every generation that has come before them.
As Rush put it the day after the Midterms:
The smart money says it’s gonna be Pelosi, but I really am gonna be keeping a sharp eye out for some of these new arrivals on the Democrat side, some of these young Millennial types — who, believe me, know more than anything about anybody.
They know more than anybody knows, and they have no patience. I mean, we’re almost in a Logan’s Run. Remember that movie where everybody over 30 was killed? Well, we’re not quite there, but the attitude here is that old people need to get out of the way and stop slowing things down and screwing things up. Old people simply can’t relate to the present.
I see them sitting here as Pelosi gives them that lay of the land and firing right back, “Who are you, old woman? You got no business telling us what to do! You think you run this place? It’s your turn to get out of the way. You don’t threaten me.” I’m saying, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens. [Rush transcript courtesy of RushLimbaugh.com]
Nancy Pelosi isn’t going to brook this kind of naïve arrogance. And neither is anybody else in the Democrat Establishment. Especially if the Upstart Socialist turns her guns on the Democrat Party’s silent partners in big, multi-billion-dollar corporations.
In her naïveté, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seems to believe the stereotype of Fat-cat Republicans and their big, cigar-chomping corporate cronies.
But if the NY/Amazon deal shows anything, it’s that those corporate cronies today gravitate toward the Democrats. Because the Democrats will sell their souls and sell-out their constituents to maintain this cozy relationship.
What the Upstart Socialist fails to comprehend is all her bluster and rage is actually biting the hand that feeds her Party.
And that just might come back to bite her on the ass.
