But I thought Leftists were the smart ones

Leftists love to brag about how they are the smart ones while they condescendingly sniff at how stupid we are.

But when you get right down to it, they really have very little to brag about.

I’ve said before the Left’s biggest flaw is its dangerous coupling of arrogance and ignorance.

And yesterday we witnessed yet another example of this dangerous combo emanating from our intellectual betters.

While speaking to the National Sheriff’s Association, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said this:

“The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement. We must never erode this historic office.”

And like clockwork, the oh-so smart folks on the Left flew into an inexplicable rage.

Because in the fevered minds of the clearly uneducated, “Anglo-American” is a code word for White Supremacy.

On Planet Earth, “Anglo-American” means of English and American roots. It refers to the affinity in both English and American culture, traditions, history and heritage.

You know, like our justice system being based on English Common Law. That is “Anglo-American.”

The prefix “Anglo” by definition means “English” – the people, the language, the history, traditions, heritage.

For example, if a woman gets all swoony when she hears a British accent, we might call her an “Anglophile.”

If Leftists were really the smart ones, they would understand the etymology of the term “Anglo.”

But I’m guessing most of the Leftists howling like wounded poodles over Jeff Sessions’ remarks don’t even know the word “etymology.”

As Charles C. W. Cooke pointed out last night at National Review Online:

It is hard to overstate just how commonly used this phrase is in this context. Within the law, “Anglo-American” does not mean “white.” It does not mean “the KKK.” It is not a “dog whistle.” It is fundamental. It is used – shock! – to refer to those institutions, ideals, structures, and customs that are common to England and the United States – that is, to the common legal heritage the two countries share. Most basically, it means “common law,” but it can also apply more broadly. There is, for example, an identifiable “Anglo-American” conception of due process, which is distinct from, say, the Napoleonic system. That some people also use the word “Anglo” to mean “white” has no bearing on this.

But the so-called smart ones on the Left have no clue.

Fired, Alyssa?

For stating a fact?

But this kind of nonsense isn’t just being spewed by the Intellectual Leaders of the Resistance like Alyssa. Even a sitting United States Senator revealed his own arrogance and ignorance over the term “Anglo-American.”

I think from now on, I will refer to this genius as “Schatz-for-Brains.”

Again from Charles Cooke:

Brian Schatz is a lawmaker in the United States Congress. In fact, as a senator, he’s more than that: He’s one of just 100 people in this country who get to confirm federal judges, including to the Supreme Court. And, apparently, he’s unaware of what the term “Anglo-American heritage” means.
We’re screwed.

But remember, my friends. We’re the dumb ones. And the Leftists are the smart ones.

It isn’t worth the time to point out that Barack Obama, like Jeff Sessions has used the term “Anglo-American” to describe our justice system.

Even if he never said it, on its face, “Anglo-American” is a commonly-used term that has absolutely nothing to do with “white people.”

And you would think these self-appointed smart ones would know that.

I agree with Milano. Sessions should be fired. He should have been fired as soon as he recused himself from the “Russia” investigation. Not for his use of the English language.

What’s he doing paling around with Sheriffs when he should be busy putting Hillary behind bars!?!

So Sen. Schatz (D-Hawaii) is triggered by the term “Anglo-American.” Let’s see, the term has two parts: Anglo; American. Anglo refers to England and the English from whom we have inherited our legal system. So is it the “Anglo” part that triggers the lefties? I don’t think current evidence supports that idea. We know that NFL players playing in London were triggered by the Star-spangled Banner to kneel, but were not triggered by God Save the Queen (the national anthem of England and the UK — the very nation who brought us our legal system and who, by the way, brought us slavery). Furthermore, I’ve never heard of Senator Schatz being triggered by his own state flag — the flag of Hawaii has the Union Jack (thanks to George Vancouver) in the upper left corner. So it seems clear the lefties are not triggered by the “Anglo” part of the term Anglo-American. I can only surmise then, that it is the “American” part of the term that infuriates them. They really do hate “America.”

I’m a proud Anglo-American. Congressman Brian you want a piece of this Anglo-American here I am. I may be 40 years older than you; but I fight for America; as have my ancestors for centuries! Kiss my as*!
