Want to stop mass murder? Stop covering them like the Olympics!

I want you to look at these three screen captures from the two cable news giants and CNN:

Mass murder Fox

Mass murder MSNBC

Mass murder CNN

All of them — wall-to-wall coverage of the mass murder in Florida.

[For the record: I blurred the murderer’s face; that’s not how it appears on their sites.]

I guarantee you that the next screwed-up guy who fantasizes about committing mass murder is eagerly devouring this coverage like it’s porn.

Because it is porn; it’s downright pornographic.

The future monster-in-the-making is scrolling through Twitter greedily feeding off the anger, the sorrow – and most importantly the attention yesterday’s murderer is getting.

Sorry, folks. The NRA is not emboldening the next mass murderer.

Cable news outlets, television and print news, the sputtering celebrities, hysterical politicians and potty-mouthed “comedians,” are.

Hell, even the people who go on social media to argue with all those idiots are emboldening him.

And the more constant the coverage, the more emboldened this killer-in-the-making becomes.

Imagine being a screwed up little psycho and seeing all this coverage and attention.

He too can get his face on Drudge just by following through with his homicidal fantasies.

mass murder Drudge

Imagine being a murderer-in-the-making and seeing all this – or worse that horrible image from Fox News of the killer’s face over sobbing students.

Yes, you too can have your face splashed across websites, social media, and television. You too can be famous. All you have to do is act on those murderous impulses that are eating away at you as you sit in your bedroom fantasizing.

I am certain that future killer is already putting some juicy stuff on his social media accounts knowing they will be splashed across televisions and social media for all the world to see.

And all the world is seeing it.

mass murder Daily Mail

Make no mistake about this. Every news outlet is celebrating a mass murderer.

Sure, they would never say that’s what they’re doing.

But an unknown, unstable nobody is today a household name – a celebrity. And what is a celebrity but somebody who is celebrated?

So don’t let them fool you. They are celebrating this murderer.

And the next crazy little psycho who wants payback is watching all of this and salivating.

Forget guns. Forget the NRA.

If we really wanted to stop mass murder from happening, we would stop covering them like they’re the Olympics.

Now, I don’t expect CNN, MSNBC or even Fox to shut the hell up about this murderer and the havoc he created – not when there are political points or ratings boosts involved.

But they really need to stop. Just stop.

It is irresponsible.

And I am certain – absolutely certain – that the next mass murderer-in-the-making is devouring every moment of it.

Trust me. He doesn’t care about the politics. And he doesn’t give a shit about the cable news ratings race.

All he cares about is getting that same kind of attention for himself. He wants to be the one to cause same kind of outrage, misery, horror and grief – all live and on the air 24/7.

And these idiots who turn every anonymous crazy into the celebrity du jour – they are already helping to create the next one.

It isn’t just about not covering it like the Olympics but it is also about not politicizing it as well. This shooters career goal was to become a mass shooter. How did that happen? Could it be the wall to wall coverage as well as the politicization of every single thing?!

“Never let a crisis go to waste.”

Don’t believe for an instance they want these shootings to stop.

They care about one thing and one thing only: Can they use it to make the right look bad in general and Donald Trump specifically.

I grew up in the 80’s. I owned a rifle of my own, and had what would be considered easy access to at least three other firearms – one of which was a pistol.

I was also the loner in school, with few friends, constantly bullied.

I never ONCE considered shooting anyone!

I was taught from an early age the proper use AND RESPECT for firearms.

I was taught from an early age the proper respect for life and other people!

These things never happened when I was growing up. They started in the 90’s and have continued unabated ever since. What changed?

Part of it is people are no longer taught to respect others, even those with whom you disagree. They are taught that people with opposing views are not people, they are enemies to be eradicated and disposed of.

Not saying explicitly where this attitude is coming from, but we have all seen it, we know which side of the political spectrum it fills, and that more violence is coming in the future.

I was thinking about this yesterday and rolling my eyes about the wall to wall coverage. Most of that was how the reporters ‘felt’ about it in the news room. You can see them desperately trying to stretch out their time on TV. Pathetic. Photos of the criminal should only be shown if he’s on the run.

You said “Make no mistake about this. Every news outlet is celebrating a mass murderer.”
Weren’t they doing the same thing on CNN and other MSM outlets when they were swooning over Kim Yo Jong last week?

I couldn’t put it any better myself. No really, I couldn’t and I hope I don’t try to in this comment.
Yesterday, as I have in the past, I’d reply, in my own words, this article summary to posters on various sites, who commented banning weapons was the answer.
“The media continues feeding the beast”

It’s futile with those types I know, but you have to say it, if only in hope someone not closed minded, will have that mental lightbulb brighten, and realize this problem is not the weapon but the deranged sicko behind it. Society is attacking the wrong problem with the wrong worded weapons

But the take on this article was just my response to the ban the gun argument. It’s so much deeper than that, it’s a societal problem.
The “depressing” realization is those who have the capable power to make the right change, either don’t care because it doesn’t fit their agenda or are so caught up in their agenda they are blind to the root cause. They aren’t stupid, well most of them aren’t. The problem and course of action, or the beginning of one, has had to have been discussed among their peers.

    side note to media:
If your going to hump this event ad nauseam at least add negative adjectives describing him, e.g. deranged sicko, or just deranged for the sensitive type reporters. Refrain from using his name.

Sensory input. A necessity of life.
Without it, we might as well be dead, our mind would atrophy.

Just watching the 10 pm news and saw that sorry SOB punk in shackles. To me he had a look on his face like it is dawning on him that he is going to have to pay a price for what he did.

Not a game now, is it BOY?! >:-|

I hope he pays a HIGH price for this!

    Oh, and guess what?!

    From KGWN Cheyenne Wyoming:
“Threats create concern at East High School”

“CHEYENNE, Wyo.- The Cheyenne Police Department says they want to reassure everyone that there are no substantiated threats at East High School. A rumor began spreading after a student reported threats more than a week ago on Snapchat, and with the recent tragic school shooting in Florida, more students began to feel concerned.

Both law enforcement and LCSD1 administration were aware of the situation on Thursday, February 15 after students reached out to the school resource officer.

After a thorough investigation, Cheyenne police were unable to find a direct threat.

LCSD1 officials say any type of threat is taken seriously, however. Assistant Superintendent of Support Operations Dave Bartlett said, “We do take it very seriously and I think that’s very evident when you look at the protocols that we have. We have secure perimeter, we have lock-down… We practice those things routinely.”

Both law enforcement and the school district administration say it’s important to react to these types of situations accordingly. Bartlett says you can’t dismiss school every time there’s a threat because it would happen too frequently. CPD says it’s important to react to credible information and says spreading misinformation and rumors can make it more difficult to assess viable threats.

For anyone who would like to report information or ever want to report something anonymously, they can do so by reporting to Safe-2-Tell (844-996-7233…844-WYO-SAFE).”

In one of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation books (I can’t remember which one) a character is asked how the emperor can stop people from committing suicide from a certain bridge. The character told him to make it illegal to use the suicide’s name when reporting on the issue. From that point on they could only be referred to as “Moron #1”, “Moron #2”, etc. This would mean that they would never be remembered in history. It would be great if we could do the same thing to these mass shooters. Unfortunately (and fortunately) we have the First Amendment which would make that impossible, but it’s a nice thought anyways.
