What is this – an episode of 24?

24

When it comes to Donald Trump, Congressional Democrats have arrived at the third stage of grief: Bargaining.

The latest attempt to deal with the loss of Hillary Clinton is the 25th Amendment to the Constitution – specifically Section 4:

4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments

That is, the Cabinet.

or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

So, in other words, the Democrats want the Vice President and the Cabinet to declare that President Trump is unable to “discharge the powers and duties of his office.

Why? Well, because of that press conference he held last week.

And on that day the phrase “flimsy excuse” was redefined.

Odd. Here I thought only in an episode of 24 do political opponents try to use the 25th Amendment to oust a president with whom they disagree.

They loved using the 25th Amendment on 24.

In Season Two, the Vice President and Cabinet voted to oust President David Palmer because he refused to launch a military attack in retaliation of a nuclear strike by terrorists in California.

In Season Six, the Vice President attempted to use the 25th Amendment to oust President Wayne Palmer after Palmer called off a retaliatory nuclear strike after terrorists detonated suitcase nukes in California.

Hey, no one will ever accuse the writers of 24 of originality.

Of course there’s a problem with this latest Democrat idea.

The determination of the 25th Amendment is not left up to the opposition party in Congress.

They can wish to “invoke the 25th Amendment” all day long.

But they don’t have the Constitutional authority to invoke it – no matter how distraught they are over Hillary losing.

It has to be initiated by the Executive Branch.

And Congress only gets involved if the sitting President disputes it. Then it goes to Congress and they vote on it. And they’d need two-thirds of the Congress to agree.

So what’s the work-around these kooky Democrats have come up with?

Why to have Congress pass a law that enables former Presidents to determine if the sitting President is fit to serve.

I kid you not.

Oregon Democrat Congressman Earl Blumenauer is actually working on introducing legislation to form this “other body as Congress may by law provide.” And he wants it to be made up of previous Presidents and Vice Presidents.

Honestly, these people have become unhinged.

Which is ironic when you consider that the Democrats’ argument against Trump is that he’s mentally ill.

And why is he mentally ill?

Because he said things that are factually untrue.

Oh, okay.

If saying things that aren’t true is proof that you’re nuttier than a fruitcake, we better pack up all of Washington and cart them off to Bellevue. And we better send Barack Obama along with them.

How could any party that permits Nancy Pelosi to be their leader pretend to be concerned about Trump’s mental health?

About twenty years ago when I got my first tattoo, my grandmother said, “I like Diann, but she’s crazy.”

Now for the funny part of this story. My grandmother was a paranoid schizophrenic.

Yeah. Having the party of Nancy Pelosi call Trump crazy makes about as much sense as that.

The 25th Amendment is not the “Official Do-Over for the Opposition Party” Amendment.

How would you define refusing to accept the results of a free election? Isn’t that a sign that you’re not right in the head?

In fact, isn’t this stupid 25th Amendment “hail Mary” about as crazy as it gets?

Okay, strictly speaking, maybe this desperation, denial and delusion isn’t a sign that the Democrats are mentally ill.

But it sure as heck is a sign that these people have lost their grasp on reality.
