Now, I realize that was ages ago, but do your best, okay?
Saturday a hate-filled man walked into Tree of Life Synagogue and opened fire — killing eleven fellow Americans and injuring several others.
The anti-Trump Left wasted no time assigning blame to the President for this murderer’s brutal crime.
They blamed all the “dog whistles” in President Trump’s “rhetoric” that “inspired” this man — who (like them) hates Trump — to go on a rampage in a synagogue.
Yes, these anti-Trump Leftists care so much about the victims of this anti-Trump shooter. They really, really care.
In fact, they care so much that after Tree of Life’s Rabbi Jeffrey Myers told an incredulous Alisyn Camerota, “The President of the United States is always welcome. I’m a citizen. He’s my President; he is certainly welcome,” many of them sent the Rabbi hate mail.
Because nothing says, “I care about the tragic murders of your congregants” quite like sending hate mail.
After all, they love their fellow man, right? Love Trumps Hate, don’t you know.
And when Rabbi Myers showed Love, the Love Trumps Hate crowd sent him hate mail.
It just boggles the mind, doesn’t it?
But when you don’t really object to “hate” you don’t hesitate to send hate mail to someone who, just three days earlier, you were pretending to care about.
The sad fact is, many Leftists revel in “Hate.” They wrap it around themselves like a Mexican serape.
And right now the object of their seething hatred is President Trump.
So, if you hate Trump too, they’ll love you. In fact, they will absolve you of any sin so long as you share in their hatred for Trump.
[Which explains Jennifer Rubin’s popularity on MSNBC.]
But if you fail to display the proper amount of hatred for the President, they will turn their hatred on you. Even if just days ago someone tried to gun you down in your own place of worship.
Their concern over Saturday’s tragedy is contingent on two things:
1) Can it be used to bludgeon Trump?
And 2) are the victims in ideological alignment with them?
If it can’t be used as a bludgeon, they’ll simply ignore it.
And if it can be used as a bludgeon, but one of the victims voices support for the President, they’ll still bludgeon Trump, but they’ll also send the victim hate mail.
Tucker Carlson was right last week when he said that America is sinking into sectarian divisions.
When you replace actual faith with a near-religious devotion to a political ideology, that is inevitable. You see the world as Good (my side) versus Evil (their side). And when you view the world that way, it gives you license to hate “their side” to your heart’s content.
This kind of sectarian division wasn’t caused by President Trump.
In fact, if I had to venture a guess, I’d say it was caused by a rejection of faith in God.
Sadly, there are people in the world who seek to do evil. The murderer who opened fire at Tree of Life Synagogue is one such person.
But the evil he sought didn’t end when the bullets stopped.
Like a virus that evil continues to divide us.
But President Trump isn’t the one exploiting and furthering that divide.
Instead, he reached out and paid his respects – without any regard for the political affiliations of the victims or the survivors.
So who is advancing that murderer’s cause by further dividing us?
Perhaps the news media who rushed immediately to accuse President Trump or “white men” of being responsible.
Perhaps the people who exploited this tragedy and protested President Trump for coming to show his respects.
Perhaps the people who sent hate mail to the Rabbi for inviting him.
As Rabbi Myers told Alisyn Camerota as she tried to goad him into blaming Trump, “Hate does not know religion, race, creed, political party. It’s not a political issue in any way, shape, or form. Hate does not know any of those things.”
This seems like such a simple truth. But for many on the Left, it is impossible for them to comprehend.
You must be in complete alignment with them or else you’re evil.
And if you refuse to be in complete alignment with them, you will become a target of their hate.
I ran across this Thomas Sowell quote early this morning on Twitter that seems appropriate.
"Most people on the left are not opposed to freedom. They are just in favor of all sorts of things that are incompatible with freedom. Freedom ultimately means the right of other people to do things that you do not approve of."

The Left did not approve of Rabbi Myers welcoming the President to Tree of Life Synagogue. In their eyes, he should not be free to rise about their virulent hatred of Trump by extending an open hand of welcome.
And for that, he deserves hate mail.
The greater tragedy of the Tree of Life shooting is this.
That same hatred that infected this murderer is something we all must be on guard against.
And it doesn’t spring up fully formed out of nowhere from “dog whistles” or rhetoric.
No. It is something we all have the capacity to entertain. All it takes is a willingness to feed and nurture it, and it will grow like a choking weed within your soul.
Those on the Left who sent hate mail to Rabbi Myers are happily entertaining that same infectious hatred that has taken the soul of this murderer.
And so blinded are they by that hatred, they don’t even realize that they have become the very thing they claim to reject.
