Acosta’s a Narcissist not a Martyr

Since the White House revoked his “hard pass,” Jim Acosta has been really playing it up.

He’s a martyr for Press Freedom, don’t you know.

Yes, he’s as brave as that young man who stood in the way of the tanks in Tiananmen Square.

A noble, virtuous Guardian of Freedom cut down by a fascist monster who wants to rid the country of a Free Press.

He’s the modern day Thomas More – saint and martyr.

There’s just one tiny problem. Jim is many things — self-centered, narcissistic, boorish, partisan — but he ain’t no martyr.

A martyr by definition is “one who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause or principle.”

Jim Acosta has not made a “great sacrifice” nor is he suffering in any way.

His right to sanctimoniously lecture from the studios of CNN remains intact. No mob is congregating outside of his home, banging on the doors and threatening to harm him and his family.

In Russia, Iran, Turkey and other totalitarian countries, journalists are imprisoned and even killed. Those journalists could be considered martyrs. But not Jim.

Hell, in America under President Obama, journalists were spied on, investigated by the DOJ, and even found themselves subjects of IRS audits. Jim just got his hard pass revoked.

Being refused entry into the White House because you’re a sanctimonious big-mouth who constantly disrupts press briefings isn’t even in the same ballpark.

And the problem with Jim playing the martyr is he isn’t a sympathetic figure.

He’s a rude, disrespectful, narcissistic, self-promoting prick who has done more damage to the principle of a “free and independent press” than President Trump ever would.

Jim isn’t a martyr anywhere except in his own mind.

But because playing the martyr feeds his over-weaning ego, he’s going to play it up big time.

Now, just to be clear, I don’t think Jimmy here was trying to “assault” this intern when she attempted to retrieve the microphone.

When I watched the exchange, what I saw was a self-absorbed dick so focused on being the center of attention, he didn’t notice that the intern had come over until she tried to reach for the mic.

And because Jim was so hell-bent on filibustering the press conference, his lizard brain didn’t get any further than, “Me want to talk. Me keeping mic. Me won’t stop.”

He wasn’t trying to manhandle her. But in his single-minded quest to filibuster, she became an obstacle. So he pushed her arm away from the mic.

It’s as clear as day on the video that Jim did in fact push down on her arm to keep her from taking the microphone. I don’t know how that can be in dispute.

Yet in order to play the martyr, Jim has to dismiss as “fake” the actual video of him pushing her arm down.

And when you lie in order to play the martyr, it makes your martyrdom look all the more ridiculous.

But I’m not surprised Jim doesn’t remember the tussle. When someone is as narcissistic as Jim Acosta, it’s entirely possible pushing someone’s arm away from the mic wouldn’t even be a blip on his radar.

All Jim had to do was show a modicum of contrition for his boorish behavior. Perhaps apologize to the intern, admit he got carried away, and move on.

But he can’t do that. He won’t do that. Instead, he plays the martyr.

I just went over to his Twitter feed. And it is chock-full of retweets from other reporters defending the poor, mistreated Acosta’s honor. It’s rather puke-inducing if you want to know the truth.

It always amazes me at how quickly belligerent, combative people shift gears and play the Victim.

I know I’ve used this video before, but I’m using again. Because this video sums up Jim Acosta to a “T.”

Let’s be honest here. It’s human nature to not care when an asshole gets what’s coming to him.

Maybe that sounds cruel, but them’s the facts.

And Jim is an asshole.

When a boorish, belligerent bully starts crying and whining about how unfair he’s treated, most normal people either roll their eyes or laugh – or, in my case, both.

And because folks like Jim Acosta always push too hard and too far, this playing the martyr is going to backfire.

In fact, I think it already is.

How many more people have watched the video in question because Jim won’t shut the hell up about how mistreated he is?

Sure, his fellow “journalists” are rushing to his defense and bolstering his claims of martyrdom.

But out here in the real world, we aren’t falling for it. In fact, we’re all getting pretty sick of him.

Like I said, Acosta is not a sympathetic figure.

For two years we’ve been subjected to his whining, complaining, shouting, scolding, interrupting and his sanctimonious lectures.

It’s getting old.

And the more he pushes this ridiculous Victim card, the more irritating he’s going to become.

So quit while you’re behind, Jim.

For your own sake, get over it.

Oh man. Adjectives like those encapsulate so many up there.
‘Spartacus’ Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Auntie Maxine, Chuck Schumer, the list could go on…
And it even describes the boy Hogg as well. They’re everywhere!

I can’t think of anyone I detest more. Wait I can. The list is long.
