AOC starts a petition because writing a bill is hard

So, according to the Hill, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has started a petition to get Congress to repeal the Hyde Amendment.

Has she forgotten that she is a member of Congress?

Why on earth would a member of Congress petition Congress to pass a bill repealing the Hyde Amendment?

Is she going to present the petition to herself?

This is all kinds of stupid.

Say, I’m starting a petition to get me to clean my house more often.  I’m just sick, sick I tell you, of how infrequently I mop the floors and vacuum the carpet.  And something must be done about it!!  So please sign my petition to demand that I clean my house more often.  And I will present this petition to myself so I know just how serious I am about it.

It’s Grade-A Stupid.

Hey, Alexandria, if you really want Congress to repeal the Hyde Amendment, here’s a suggestion: write a friggin’ bill!

You are in Congress — you know, the Legislative branch. If you want Congress to vote on a bill to repeal the Hyde Amendment, you don’t need to start a petition.  All you need to do is sit down and write the bill yourself.  That’s one of the perks of being paid $174K a year to be in Congress.  You can actually write bills for stuff you want done.

And, yes, I know you’re not the brightest star in the heavens and writing bills is hard and stuff.  But, really, your bill could be as short as one sentence:

“Repeal the Hyde Amendment restricting taxpayer funding for abortion.”

The end.

I think even you could handle that.

But let me clue you all in as to why Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t want to actually present a bill to Congress to repeal the Hyde Amendment.

First, it won’t pass through both Houses and it will never be signed by President Trump.

Second, if she actually follows through on, you know, her job and presents a bill, she can no longer use repealing the Hyde Amendment as a demagogic weapon against her dreaded enemy, the GOP.

Just look at her silly “Green New Deal.”  Despite the gloom and doom predictions that we only have twelve years left, when Mitch McConnell had the Senate actually vote on the stupid thing, AOC told Senate Democrats to vote present.

She even bragged about it on Twitter.

Because I encouraged them to vote present, along w/ others.

McConnell tried to rush the #GreenNewDeal straight to the floor without a hearing.

Alexandria can’t afford to lose her Green New Deal talking point by actually having members of Congress go on the record. She doesn’t want action, she wants a bludgeon.

She doesn’t want to legislate; she wants to demagogue.

There’s one other reason she started a petition rather than write a bill.

When you sign a petition, you have to leave your email address.

The goal of this petition is not to get Congress to act – because, hey, she’s a member of Congress and she could act all on her own, petition or no petition.

The goal is to increase her emailing list in order to raise campaign funds.

You’d have to be half a nitwit not to realize that.

But fortunately for AOC, most of her slobbering Twitter fans are, in fact, half nitwits.

And they’ll fall for this grift hook, line and sinker.
