What does Bernie think a gun is for?!

what does Bernie think a gun is for

The push to use the terrorist attack in Orlando to advance gun control is in full swing. Senator Bernie Sanders, appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press said this:

“I believe that in this country, we should not be selling automatic weapons which are designed to kill people.”

Automatic weapons aren’t sold to people without a complete and thorough background check and a permit from the ATF. You can’t just go into a gun store and walk out with a fully automatic Kalashnikov. But let’s leave that aside. I don’t expect Bernie Sanders to know the finer points of gun licensing. I mean, this guy’s whole campaign is based on an economic model that does not work and he has yet to noodle that out. He’s not exactly the brightest star in the firmament.

What really grates my cheese about this stupid statement is the “which are designed to kill people” part.

A firearm is not like a knife. Yes, a knife can be used to kill, but it also has many other handy functions. You can peel an apple, cut a pie, slice a pizza, and, if you’re John Kasich, use that knife to cut that slice of pizza into smaller, neater, bite-sized portions.

But a gun has one purpose.

I don’t look at my Mossberg 12-gauge with the pistol-grip and think, “You know, this makes one heck of a paperweight.”

I own a gun for self-defense. And I don’t keep it loaded and on hand in case I have a particularly difficult walnut to crack.

When I first decided to purchase a gun, my father said to me, “Do not buy a gun unless you are prepared to kill someone with it.”

He didn’t tell me that to encourage me to go out on a shooting spree. My father simply understands the purpose of a firearm, and he wanted to make absolutely certain I understood as well.

Guns are designed to kill. Why the hell else would you make something that can fire a projectile 2,600 feet per second (or 1,800 MPH)?

It is human nature to protect yourself. The whole “fight or flight” is innate in all of us. It is the natural desire to protect yourself. Sometimes, to protect yourself, it is better to run. But sometimes you can’t run. So to protect yourself, you must fight.

We fight to survive. The survival instinct is part of being human.

In fact, every living thing fights to survive — from super bugs to sea turtles to humans.

What the Left wants is to strip humans of the most fundamental instinct of all living things: to survive. Self-defense is about that fundamental instinct. But the Left doesn’t want us to defend ourselves. The Left wants to transform human nature and the basic truths of all living things.

They have a penchant for that, don’t they? Why else would they advocate that gender is fluid and not fixed?

Human nature must bend to the will of the Left.

To protect yourself is your most basic responsibility and right. It is why we find shelter, why we eat food. For heaven’s sake, it’s why we duck when we hear a loud noise or when someone yells, “Look out!”

And it is precisely why we invented the firearm.

I’m sure the guy in China who developed the firearm didn’t think to himself, “This is great! Now we have something to shoot into the air at the start of a foot race!”

We develop weapons to protect and defend. Period.

Only blathering nitwits like Bernie Sanders would bemoan the fact that people want to buy a weapon for self-defense.

I guess for him, the only weapons we should own are the non-lethal kind that make pretty scatter patterns in paper targets.

Like my Dad said. If you own a weapon for self-defense you better be damn sure you are prepared to use it to kill someone. Owning a gun requires a certain commitment and understanding of what that gun was designed to do.

Fight or flight. It’s part of our DNA. Humans, being the inventive and adaptive creatures that we are, will use our amazing minds to perfect our own defense. And as much as Leftist dingle-berries like Bernie Sanders may be horrified by that fact, it’s just human nature.

Speaking of inventive. Take a look at this new magnetic pulse gun developed for the US Navy.

Now, that is one hell of a useful paperweight!

I couldn’t focus after I read this: “I own a gun for self-defense. I don’t keep it loaded and on hand in case I have a particularly difficult walnut to crack.”

Some folks have drifted to far away from the mainstream of normal, rational thought processes. Bernie Sanders (Uncle B.S.) is beyond the lunatic fringe. Logic escapes him. Someone please give him a cookie and sit the old coot down in a safe space for a while. Night, night Uncle B.S. Take a nice nap now.

I love all the people talking about “automatic weapons” on this shooting, yet correctly identify the long gun used as an “AR-15 type weapon”. An AR-15 is a semiautomatic weapon. Pull the trigger and one round is fired down range. Hold the trigger back and after that one round goes down range nothing further happens! Pull the trigger again and get another single round. Operationally it is no different than the average semiautomatic handgun.

In an automatic weapon, when you pull and hold the trigger, the weapon continues to fire rounds down range at a continuous cyclic rate of fire until the trigger is released or the magazine is empty, whichever comes first. These are the weapons Hollywood loves in action movies because they make a lot of noise and flash. In combat, they are really good at getting the folks down range to put their heads down and use a lot of precious ammunition. This mode is not even used on the M16 anymore since the 4th round and later was usually heading for the sky.

It would be nice if the gun grabbers at least knew enough to speak intelligently on the subject, but that is not what they are about, with them it is only the emotional appeal and the big scary black gun. I am tempted to get my AR painted light blue just to confuse them!
