Beware the Wobbly Republicans

Beware the Wobbly Republicans

There’s been a lot of talk about some Congressional Democrats going wobbly on funding the border wall.

And that’s good news.

The signs are there that Nancy’s Wall of Opposition against the Wall is beginning to show cracks.

But never forget that Republicans have made an art out of going wobbly.

They’re not called the Surrender Caucus for nothing.

There’s a reason the media is focusing on sob stories over the Government Shutdown.  It isn’t to change the hearts and minds of the American people.

No.

It is completely directed at the traditional wobbly Republicans in Congress.

These Wobbly Republicans have a reputation for stabbing Americans in the back in order to appease an angry news media.

And Derek Hunter’s latest column “Republicans Can Win the Shutdown If…” makes that point perfectly.

It’s not a joke to say Republicans have an uncanny knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Of all the things the GOP excels at, this tops the charts. So as the longest partial shutdown of the government in history rolls on, it’s important to take a moment to check the status of things and game out how things could go. And, believe it or not, Republicans could actually end up with money for a border wall (or barrier, whatever) if only they ignore all their natural instincts and stand strong.

The sad profiles of federal employees claiming to be on the verge of destruction have already begun, as have the stories of others impacted by the absence of a small percentage of a small percentage of the government. These “human interest” stories are a staple of everything liberals do – appealing to feelings is much easier than making a logical argument when your policies make no logical sense.

Rather than being sucked into answering for every sad tale of woe, most of which are fed to reporters by liberal activists and Democratic operatives, Republicans have to stand strong and refuse to take the bait. Respond to these inquiries with simple, obvious truths like, “It’s sad what’s happening. I wish Democrats had kept the House in session this weekend so we could work together to end this, but they have no interest in negotiation. So maybe you should ask them about it.”

The big question is, will traditionally wobbly Republicans stand fast?

And the answer is a mystery.

We know they have it in them to fight back against demagoguery and media histrionics.  That’s why Brett Kavanaugh is now Justice Kavanaugh.

But what happened with the Kavanaugh confirmation was unique for the Wobbly Caucus.

And there’s no guarantee that they will find courage from that success to withstand the never-ending barrage of media attacks, jiggered polling and pull-at-the-heartstrings tales of woe about those whose Federal paychecks are on hold during the shutdown.

From Hunter’s column:

All Republicans have to do is ignore their instincts, their weaker members, every pundit and journalist, and stick to their guns.

A few Republicans have expressed a desire to cave, but they’re the ones whose natural position is submission – the Lisa Murkowskis of the world. Otherwise, it’s been refreshing to see so many not only refuse to buckle, but actually fight back.

Across the aisle, Democrats are seeing cracks. Far more have spoken favorably of some kind of compromise that includes a barrier than Republicans begging for mercy.

That fact will lead to more “shutdown stories,” because it’s all the left has.

Their talking points have been surprisingly weak – calling walls “immoral” or saying they don’t work (which makes anyone who understands what happens when 2 solids meet, laugh). They’ve already started down the path of their disgusting hail mary pass – cries of racism. These aren’t the actions of people winning an argument.

I’ve said before that the longer this shutdown goes on, the stronger the Republicans’ position becomes.

But this will all depend on the Wobbly Caucus within the Republican Party.

It’s time for the Republicans in Congress to take a few pages from the Democrat Playbook.

First, exploit the cracks within the Democrat caucus. Push their wobbly Democrat colleagues to quickly put an end to the Shutdown by approving the border security funding.

Second, rush to the news cameras and call out how unserious the Democrat leadership is in solving the problem.  Heck, make hay over the Democrats going to Puerto Rico on a junket while furloughed employees go unpaid.  Demagogue the hell out of it while casting Nancy Pelosi as the primary impediment to both border security and ending the shutdown.

They need to hold their ground and take their lead from the President.

Finally, it’s up to us.

Call your Senators and your Representatives – whether they’re Democrat or Republican – and demand that they approve the border funding so the Shutdown can end.

The biggest problem the Republicans have is that they pay too much attention to the media at times like this. Instead of polling their constituents and knowing what the people they serve would like them to do, they are more concerned about the MSM and what they think of them.

A politician cannot serve two masters. They can represent they people who elected them or they can serve a political machine of some sort. The machine in this case is the extended democratic party including the mainstream media.

I am not suggesting that any representative ignore the press completely. All I am saying is that listening to those who elected you can only serve to have you re-elected. Listening to the MSM gets you invited to all the ‘cool parties’ which is the deep state in DC.

The quest for power and influence in DC is a minefield and yet lures too many into its clutches. If the lure of power and influence is an aphrodisiac far too many on the Republican side have fallen victim already to the corruption therein.

In reality, this is all Paul Ryan’s fault. This money should have been secured long before the midterms, which I believe would have resulted in more victories for the GOP in the house if the wall was being built. Alas the damage is done. So long as Trump stays strong and keeps on his superb trolling of the Democrats, I believe he will prevail in the end.

As for the wobbly Republicans? Let them flush themselves out so they can hopefully be removed from office when reelection comes up for them.

“the Lisa Murkowskis of the world…”

Lisa IS NOT A REPUBLICAN! She is an Obama/Rove/Bush independent. The Republican in the election was Named Joe Miller. THE UNIPARTY elected the “independent” Lisa defeating the Republican Joe!

I will grant she is a GWB Republican. Forget not that GWB told us all to vote Clinton in Oct ’16; not just once but repeatedly. Had Obama/Rove/Bush operatives not worked very hard AK would have elected a Republican.

For emphasis The Republican in the race lost to a Bush/Obama UNIPARTY girl! She did not win as a Republican!
