Bill to the rescue

You know things are bad for Hillary if the Clinton campaign has to pull Bill off the bench.

Bill to the Rescue

The Washington Times reported yesterday that in an effort to stop the former Miss Rodham’s downward trajectory, the Clinton campaign will be deploying their secret weapon.

“[Hillary‘s] campaign has not been the easy road people thought it was going to be,” said Robert Shrum, the Democratic consultant who worked on the failed campaigns of John Kerry and Al Gore. “And Bill can be a very effective surrogate. You’d be crazy not to use him.”

Maybe so, but if history teaches us anything, it’s sending Bill to the rescue will be a double-edged sword at best.

It won’t take long before Hillary ends up overshadowed by her more popular, more genial, more engaging husband. As was the case in 2008.

I almost feel sorry for Hillary.

Almost.

The truth is, she’s a dreadful candidate. And the fact that the Clinton campaign feels the need to bring Bill in to save the day will only shine an even brighter light on the fact that Hillary just doesn’t have it.

I mean, how bad does it have to be when Hillary is losing support to a man who has yet to announce he’s running for President? Especially when you consider that particular man happens to be a gaffe-prone moron who lacks the brain wattage to power an Easy Bake Oven.

Something tells me that having a battalion of Bill Clintons couldn’t save Hillary’s bacon this time. He couldn’t do it in 2008 when Hillary’s approval numbers were much higher than they are today.

The fact is, Hillary couldn’t cut it in 2008. And now, she’s damaged goods. Her miserable tenure as Secretary of State and the ever-growing scandal of her private server only proves that, despite appearing to have sunk as low as a candidate can go, Hillary has whole sub-basements in which to plummet.

Bill may be a potent secret weapon. But nothing short of a Miracle Man could raise this miserable campaign from the dead.

Mr. Robert Shrum is right about one thing, Bill Clinton does love his-self some surrogate.
