Collectivism Wrapped in a Pantsuit

There was something particularly jarring about Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Launch 2.0 Speech.

Okay, to be fair, if you listened to it, the entire thing was jarring. That’s the downside of having a speech read by someone whose delivery is hampered by a shrill, nasal monotone.

But in reading the speech, one item jumped out at me.

Hillary, in her interminable opening, said this:

“It’s America’s basic bargain. If you do your part you ought to be able to get ahead. And when everybody does their part, America gets ahead too.”

So much for “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

We’ve gone from a Nation of Individuals with God-Given Rights to a Bargain Nation.

According to Hillary, it isn’t that Government is instituted to secure these Rights. No. Government is there to ensure everybody hold up their end of the bargain.

You do your part, and you’ll get ahead.

And when everybody does their part, America gets ahead.

It sounds like typical feel-good pabulum.

But there’s meaning in that there bromide.

It is the same tired collectivism that tried and failed in the Soviet Union, and in every Marxist banana Republic third-world tin-pot dictator regime along the way.

This notion that America isn’t a nation, but a government that has entered into a bargain with the people is more socialist claptrap.

“If you do your part?”

“Nice life you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it. So, you better do your part.”

Individual sovereignty be damned.

You must do your part.

Beware any Liberal Democrat who demands that you do your part.

Because when a Liberal talks about each of us “doing our part,” guess who gets to determine what “our part” is going to be?

For a Liberal like Hillary, doing your part is all about standing still and letting the government take from you. Take your Liberty. Take your property. Take your children. Take your choices of how to live, where to live, whether or not you want health insurance, whether or not you want to educate your children at home or in a private school.

You see, for this collectivism to work, Government has to be given the authority over you, your life, and your choices.

For example. If you earn more money than other people, you’re taking more than is fair. And, so, for the good of the collective, your end of the bargain is giving up some of what you have out of “fairness.” Otherwise, you are not doing your part.

If you own a business, your end of the bargain is to be forced to pay a wage you cannot afford. Because it isn’t fair, you see, that you employ people but don’t pay them as much as a hedge fund manager makes. You must do your part to ensure that everyone is getting an equal cut of the pie.

And everyone has to do their part. You see?

Otherwise, you will not be permitted to “get ahead.”

God-given Rights?



Come on! Those are the ideas of “yesterday.”

We must all sacrifice for the good of the collective.

There’s nothing new here.

Remember, it was only two or three years ago, that MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry chose to promote education funding by saying this:

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognized that kids belong to whole communities. Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the households, then we can start making better investments.”

For all her claims of being the candidate of the future. The one with a “new vision” for America.

Hillary Clinton is the same dried up, old hat progressivism of Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and every collectivist, Anti-Liberty, Anti-American radical who rose up from the primordial ooze of the 1960s.

Hillary Clinton is the bastard child of Mao and Marx.

She is collectivism wrapped in a pantsuit.
