When it comes to the news media, I’m always suspicious

I’m sure you’ve noticed that many mainstream news outlets have done about about-face over Bill Clinton’s history of sexual misconduct and assault.

It began with this tweet from MSNBC’s Chris Hayes:

As gross and cynical and hypocrtical as the right's "what about Bill Clinton" stuff is, it's also true that Democrats and the center left are overdue for a real reckoning with the allegations against him.

Other news outlets have also begun to reevaluate the rape accusation brought by Juanita Broaddrick.

In fact, the Daily Caller points this out in a piece with this incredulous headline: ’Hell Has Definitely Frozen Over’ – Media Forced to Acknowledge Bill Clinton’s Alleged Sex Crimes.

No. Hell hasn’t frozen over.

The media is still as duplicitous and awful as they always are.

When it comes to the news media, I am always suspicious.

They have an agenda.

And if they are willing to publicly admit that Bill Clinton may very well be a rapist, they’re doing so because admitting it helps them advance a narrative.

Clinton and his wife are now useless to them.

It costs them nothing to finally – after three decades of ignoring it – acknowledge that the man is a sexual predator.

And it helps them immeasurably to suddenly side with his accusers.

After all, they need to drive the Republican out of the Alabama race so the Democrat can win. Now is not the time to be saddled with their defense of a rapist like Bill.

To tell you the truth, I’m beginning to suspect that this no-holds-barred smear of Roy Moore is serving as a template for how the mainstream media will handle Republican candidates in the 2018 Midterms.

Sexual allegations are in vogue thanks to Harvey Weinstein.

And if they succeed in driving Moore out of the race or getting him defeated at the ballot box, they plan on using this more widely next year.

Actually, even if they don’t succeed in defeating Moore, I think they still plan to use this tactic in 2018.

Succeed or not, the accusation alone sent the Republican Party scattering like cockroaches. And a party that is too busy disavowing every Republican who is smeared is a party that will not unify and fight to win in 2018.

So I expect Democrat-led PACs to utilize the Moore Template and pursue this kind of innuendo against every Republican running next year.

And fortunately for them, there are plenty of smear merchants who are more than happy to dig up the dirt on their behalf – for the right price.

As Sharyl Attkisson points out in her new book The Smear, between PR Firms, Political Action Committees, non-profits, Think Tanks and the like, the Smear is a trillion-dollar industry.

And if they think the smear against Moore is successful, trust me. There will be more of this in 2018 – and plenty of money to fund it.

But to clear the decks, they have to rid themselves of that albatross named William Jefferson Clinton.

That’s why this supposed mea culpa over ignoring the accusations about Clinton is extremely suspicious to me.

The motivation behind it is not sincere.

But then again, when has the news media ever been sincere?
