Whelp. Hillary Clinton is at it again – making excuses for her humiliating loss from almost six months ago.
She just can’t stop whining and pointing fingers.
But I’m not surprised.
With the release of the book Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign, Team Clinton needs to do some serious damage control.
I read a segment of Shattered just the other day at the New York Post. And I have to say, the Clinton team does not come off good at all.
Then again, I don’t need to read a book about this arrogant campaign to know that.
But clearly the Clinton Machine is none too happy with how Shattered portrays their losing candidate.
So out trots Hillary to whine and point fingers – anything to absolve herself of any responsibility for being the single worst candidate in modern history.
Problem is, this effort at damage control is, in itself, more than a little damaging.
Last month, in my column There’s nothing worse than a chick that won’t let go, I wrote:
If only someone would tell her it’s time to let it go.
Eventually, even those who voted for her are going to get tired of hearing her harp on this in speech after speech.
Because this kind of endless griping sucks all the oxygen out of the room. And even the people who like you get sick of it.
It doesn’t make Hillary look good.
Then again, not much makes Hillary Clinton look good.
But at her age, being the chick that won’t let go is going to get old really fast.
And I was right.
Even some in the Enslaved Press are growing weary of Hillary’s constant excuse-making and whining.
I mean, if her BFF Andrea Mitchell is starting to question Hillary’s lack of self-reflection, you know it’s bad.
From the Free Beacon:
Mitchell’s report on “NBC Nightly News” opened by explaining that Clinton blamed people other than herself for her 2016 loss during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday.
Clinton said she was well on her way to victory over Donald Trump before FBI Director James Comey’s 11th-hour letter to Congress regarding the investigation into her private email server.
“What about her responsibility for failing to have a better message?” Mitchell asked after showing Clinton blaming Comey and other external factors.
“She says it was not a perfect campaign, but no mention of her failure to go to Wisconsin, to campaign earlier in Michigan, connect with rust belt voters in Pennsylvania—all blue states that went for Donald Trump—or why the first female nominee could not win a majority of white college-educated women,” Mitchell added.
Even former Obama advisor David Axelrod thinks Hillary needs to show a little more introspection.
Hillary’s attempt at damage control isn’t controlling the damage from Shattered. It’s making the damage worse.
Here’s the bare-bones truth of it.
Hillary Clinton did not believe she would lose.
She thought the White House was hers for the taking. And as a result, didn’t bother making the case for herself in any substantive way.
In fact, she rarely bothered to campaign at all.
As I pointed out in a September column titled Where the hell is Hillary Clinton?, she was so certain of her impending victory, she wasn’t even taking the time to make campaign appearances.
Yesterday as I was waiting for my computer to reboot for the fourth time, I started thinking about the old fable of the tortoise and the hare.
The cocky-ass hare thought he had the race in the bag. There was no way some plodding, slow tortoise would ever possibly overtake him.
So, he stops running and decides instead to take a nap. All the while believing he had plenty of time and a good enough lead to still win the race.
Hillary is all but certain she has already won in a landslide.
In fact, just the other day, Politico ran a story titled Clinton advisers tell her to prepare for a landslide.
The wizards of smart advising Granny Clinton think it’s a done deal.
So why bother running?
Why bother campaigning?
She can just kick back and take a nap.
For the second time today, I feel the need to quote Proverbs 16:18.
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before the fall.”
It was arrogance that cost Hillary Clinton this election.
Not James Comey. Not the Wikileaks releases.
And certainly not “misogyny.”
Hillary didn’t think she needed to campaign. Her equally arrogant staff believed she had it in the bag. The Enslaved Press believed she had it in the bag.
And pollsters, using jiggered numbers, assured her she had it in the bag.
So why bother?
Again from my September column:
And, for the second time today, I feel the need to point out that Donald Trump is the perfect candidate for this time in our history.
Any other Republican would probably concede and nobly accept his role as the “also ran.”
But Donald Trump isn’t a feckless, quisling RINO.
Donald Trump is the tortoise.
He just keeps up his pace, step-by-step, campaign event by campaign event. Slowly chipping away at Granny’s lead.
Even Reuters — which reformulated its poll to favor Hillary by jiggering the undecided numbers — now shows Donald Trump in the lead.
And where the hell is Hillary Rodham Clinton?
Still napping under a tree like the freaking hare.
Hillary Clinton didn’t wake up from her slumber until the wee hours of November 9, 2016 when reality hit her in the face like a bucket of cold water.
Nobody deprived Hillary Clinton of her rightful win.
Because she never was the shoe-in they told her she was.
You can’t be robbed of something you never possessed in the first place.
Even more outrageous, in her interview with Christiane Amanpour yesterday, Hillary claimed that had the election been held on October 27th, she would have won. It was Comey’s letter to Congress on October 28th that ruined her chances.
Things happen during the course of an election season that can either hurt or help a candidate.
Do you not think that Team Clinton was hoping the last-minute release of that eleven year old Access Hollywood tape would scuttle Trump’s chances?
Come on. Of course they were.
Do you not believe that Hillary trotting out a former Miss Universe to attack Donald Trump for “fat-shaming” her was Hillary’s attempt to hurt Trump on November 8th?
You better believe it was.
Comey’s letter to Congress did shake up the campaign. As did the Access Hollywood tape and Hillary’s attempts to paint Trump as a woman-hating ape.
But Comey’s letter didn’t deprive Hillary of a win. Because there is absolutely no evidence that Hillary had it in the bag before Comey released that letter.
And I think Hillary knew that. Why else, in mid-September 2016, would Hillary make that embarrassing video where she shrieked, “Why aren’t I fifty point ahead?!”
There was clearly trouble in Clintonland long before October 28, 2016.
And all of it was of Hillary’s own making.
Comey’s letter didn’t prevent Hillary Clinton from campaigning in Wisconsin. The woman never stepped foot in that state during the General Election. James Comey had nothing to do with that. WikiLeaks didn’t force her to avoid campaigning in rust belt states.
If the only damage control Team Clinton can come up with is for Hillary to double-down on finger-pointing and excuse-making, they aren’t countering Shattered at all.
Instead Hillary is all but confirming what that book says.
She’s out of touch.
She’s in denial.
And, to this day, still refuses to take responsibility for her own miserable campaign.
