Dear Kamala: UKRAINE IS NOT IN NATO!
I don’t know how many times Kamala Harris needs to be reminded that Ukraine is not in NATO. But for crap’s sake, Kamala. Ukraine is not in NATO!
In her remarks at the DNC Winter Retreat this weekend, Kamala said:
”So I will say what I know we all say, and I will say over and over again: The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of the NATO Alliance.”
Really? We all say that? Only the people who can’t get it through their thick heads that Ukraine is not in NATO would say that, Kamala.
When they transcribed Kamala’s remarks to the White House website, the crack clean-up crew at the White House conveniently inserted a bracketed [and] into the transcript so her quote read: “The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people [and] in the defense of the NATO alliance.”
See what they did?
They’re trying to make it appear that Kamala misspoke and accidentally left out the all-important “and.”
Problem is, just three days later, Kamala did it again.
Yesterday around four in the afternoon, Kamala tweeted out a picture of herself (of course she did) greeting US troops in Poland and closed her tweet with:
”The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of the NATO alliance.”
What are the poor saps from the White House clean-up crew to do? They can’t swoop in and add the bracketed [and] to Kamala’s tweet because, despite users begging for years, Twitter still doesn’t offer an Edit button.
Maybe the White House should put an electric fence dog collar on this woman so every time she implies Ukraine is in NATO she gets a shock.
Well, since they won’t use a shock collar, the people charged with cleaning up Joe and Kamala’s frequent blunders had no choice but to delete her tweet and post the tweet again, this time with the “and” firmly in place between “the Ukrainian people” and “in defense of the NATO alliance.”
Remember the Kamala hit-piece from the Washington Post that came out in December?
The article included this fascinating nugget:
Staffers who worked for Harris before she was vice president said one consistent problem was that Harris would refuse to wade into briefing materials prepared by staff members, then berate employees when she appeared unprepared.
Nothing’s changed.
I imagine the Veep’s staff has repeatedly included in her Ukraine briefing materials a message in bold that reads, “Ukraine is not in NATO!”
But this dope keeps making the same mistake over and over again.
Well, she did say in Saturday’s speech, “So I will say what I know we all say, and I will say over and over again.”
We finally found a promise Kamala made that she intends to keep.

I suggested at the time that this was an example of the competence downshift, namely, Kamala was dumbing things down because she was talking to a black audience.
Now I suspect that was only part of the reason.
If she can’t remember that Ukraine is not in NATO, no matter how many pages of briefing materials her staff compiles, maybe she talked that way on the Morning Hustle because Kamala Harris is just dumb as a brick.
But that’s kind of a problem in a volatile situation like this.
Putin invaded Ukraine in large part because of his repeated warnings that NATO playing footsie with Ukraine over joining the alliance was a red line for him.
Kamala’s repeatedly implying Ukraine is in NATO isn’t just a harmless gaffe.
It’s a threat to our national security.
