Fawning over McCain to own Trump

Fawning over McCain

The slobbering love affair with John McCain began just moments after he announced he was discontinuing treatment for cancer.

And most of it came from the very news outlets that spent the 2008 election season portraying John McCain as worse than Hitler.

Funny how they always do that to Republican candidates, ain’t it?

But because John McCain despised Donald Trump more than the New York Times despises Hitler, they wasted no time fawning over him like the writers of Tiger Beat.

None of this is particularly surprising.

Any Republican eager for favorable press and fan-girl fawning need only attack Donald Trump as relentlessly as John McCain did.

After John McCain cast the deciding vote killing the final attempt at repealing Obamacare, I wrote:

McCain is also looking for validation and praise from the mainstream news media.

To be fair, he’s always been looking for that.

But now that he’s not long for this world, it’s become even more important to him.

After all, they’re the ones who will be writing his obituaries.

And McCain knows the best way to secure fawning, praiseworthy tributes is to side with the progressive Left.

By the way, McCain was right (and so was I).

Because of his stubborn opposition to President Trump, the news media are indeed providing him with a fawning send-off.

At the end of the day, hatred for Trump and siding with the Democrats are what makes John McCain their hero.

Not his military service. They don’t give two craps about that.

What matters to them is fawning over McCain gives them yet another opportunity to attack President Trump.

As Big Fur Hat put it yesterday at iOTWReport: The sudden love of McCain is directly proportional to the amount of contempt for Trump one has.

If John McCain had been one of President Trump’s staunchest allies, the same fawning news outlets would be far less fawning in their coverage of his passing.

Come on.

You know that’s the case.

Attacking Republicans is what made John McCain a media darling.

And his relentless attacks on President Trump guaranteed he would be remembered with slobbering devotion upon his death.

One of the things they’re attacking President Trump for now is not being sufficiently fawning over the late Arizona Senator.

Despite the fact that he tweeted gracious condolences to the McCain family, media types – both on the Left and some on the Right – are cluck-clucking and well-I-nevering because the President didn’t sing McCain’s praises.

But for what possible reason should he be so disingenuous?

McCain despised the President.

He traveled overseas to attack him to foreign audiences. Because politics doesn’t end at the water’s edge when Trump is the target.

And in his final months, McCain instructed family that President Trump was not welcome at his funeral.

So why in the name of sweet fancy Moses should President Trump join the fawning chorus?

The truth is, the President’s kind condolence tweet was mighty damn thoughtful considering McCain’s personal war against him.

And given some of the things that these fawning news outlets have said about McCain in the past – specifically when he ran against their matinee idol Barack Obama — it really is pretty damn nervy of them to now pretend they loved, loved, LOVED the guy.

The only thing they love about him is his hatred of Donald J. Trump.

But of course if President Trump did tweet out a fawning tribute to McCain, these same media types who are scolding him for not doing it would be criticizing him and saying he didn’t mean a word of it.

There’s no satisfying these people.

And President Trump knows that.

So why should he bother jumping through hoops just to try and make them happy?

You see, what I love about President Trump is his authenticity.

He is who he is.

And unlike every other politicians and 99% of the news media, he isn’t a phony.

Unlike them, he’s not going to suddenly pretend that John McCain was his bestest, closest friend and inspiration.

The truth is, President Trump showed graciousness in the face of McCain’s seething hatred of him.

If he were really as petty as the news media – including some on the Right – claim, President Trump wouldn’t have offered even heartfelt condolences to the McCain family.

The petty one was John McCain who made certain Trump would be excluded from his funeral.

And that, my friends, is why he is getting fawning coverage today.

For all their sanctimony over “put politics aside, Mr. President, and show honor to John McCain,” they are only showing honor because of politics.

It’s all about bashing President Trump.

I wonder what would happen if President Trump decided to attend the funeral anyway.

He IS the President of the United States. Is someone REALLY going to tell him no?

Good point, Peter. But unlike 0bama, who–against the wishes of the families–showed up at the plane with cameras when the four men killed in Benghazi were brought home, President Trump has class and will respect the family’s wishes. If Mrs. McCain invited him, he might go, but she won’t.

Personally, I hope John McCain knew Jesus.

    Politically, good riddance.

CNN is vilifying the president because he’s not saying anything about McCain.

I have no love for John McCain. In my mind, his public service is a great argument for term limits and rules that when you either cannot, or will not, fulfill your duties to your constituents, you should be removed from office. Missing votes would be reason for removal.

This prick held onto his senate office until they had to pry it from his cold, dead fingers. He announced he was stopping treatment, but not that he was resigning. That is a man of zero integrity and total narcissism.

My most remembered part of his public life:
He stonewalled the MIA hearings in congress
He was disrespectful as hell to the MIA families

Sarah Palin was NOT invited to the funeral. Disgraceful.
