Happy 90th, Betty!
It’s almost hard for me to believe, but today my Mom is celebrating her 90th birthday.
Yup. The big NINE-OH.
If you’re a regular reader, you know that it is a PatriotRetort.com tradition every 21st of April to pay tribute to this amazing woman, my Mom, Barbara, or as she’s known to her friends, Betty.
Fifty-nine years ago, on her 31st birthday, Betty was very pregnant. The next morning, she delivered a squalling Dianny into the world. You could almost say I was my birthday present to my Mom, only, because Dianny has never been good at keeping a schedule, I arrived a little late.
One week ago it was my parents’ wedding anniversary, so I phoned up to wish them a happy anniversary. Mom had forgotten, so I suppose I should say I phoned up to remind her.
By way of an explanation for why she forgot her anniversary, Mom said, “Well, I’m old.”
Yeah. Okay. Fair. It is, after all, her 90th birthday today. I suppose that could be classified as “old.”
But even today at the start of Betty’s 90th year, I don’t think of my Mom as old. I think of my Mom as Mom. Ageless, full of courage, grace, and humor.
I admire my Mom. She is, as I so often say, my favorite human.
It fills me with joy and a bit of pride to call this amazing woman my Mom.
Sure, today is also Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 96th birthday. But Liz takes a backseat to Betty every time. No offense to my British friends. That’s just the way it is here at PatriotRetort.com where Betty reigns supreme.
Anyroad.
I hope you will all join me in wishing my Mom Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
Happy 90th, Betty. From your loving daughter, Dianny.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag! Oh, that we could all look as young and full of mirth and grace as your Mom. My lineage is Irish, so in the words of my Irish relatives, “Betty, dance today as if no one is watching!”
Our love to you both
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Betty!
Does she still have her accent? 🙂
