Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everybody.

Actually, I should probably say Happy Halloween and Reformation Day everybody!

You see five hundred and three years ago today, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints’ church in Wittenberg, Germany. And thus began the Protestant Reformation.

Of course, since he did it on Halloween, when the priest inside All Saints heard the pounding, he just assumed Martin Luther was a trick or treater, so he opened the door and handed him a Kit Kat.

Okay. Not really.

You know, given how insane the rest of 2020 has been, is anybody else a little nervous about Halloween 2020? Because I am.

There’s supposed to be some kind of rare Halloween full moon tonight. But seeing as I live in Central New York, I won’t see it through the cloud cover. So you’ll just have to tell me what it looked like.

I was going to watch something spooky tonight for Halloween – nothing terrifying. I hate terrifying movies. Hate them. My reaction to being terrified is to cry uncontrollably. Nobody needs to see that. My Halloween movie plan was watching the Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin comedy “Scared Stiff” and tuning in to Martina Markota’s YouTube channel to watch some of her vintage horror films livestream.

But this morning I learned that fellow Scot and my favorite James Bond, Sean Connery passed away today. So instead of “Scared Stiff,” I think I’ll enjoy a mini Connery film festival.

Like “The Untouchables.”

Along with “Dr. No” or “Goldfinger” – or all three.

I’ll probably still drop in on Martina Markota’s livestream as well. Because why not?

Hey, speaking of Martina Markota, if you haven’t read it yet, you should read my conservation with Martina Markota from July.

Anyroad.

Since it is Halloween, here’s a little monster movie ‘Shop just for the heck of it.

Happy Halloween!

May your Halloween be filled with candy, cackles and trunalimunumaprzure!

I don’t do gory or scary movies. What I jokingly call scary movies (for my husband’s amusement) are mainly silly movies. “Young Frankenstein”, “Dracula: Dead and Loving It”, “Ghostbusters 1 &2” as well as a family favorite and NOT even remotely a Halloween movie, “Blackbeard’s Ghost”. It’s a campy, vintage Disney movie starring Peter Ustinov. My two boys 18 and 21 also love these movies. We go around talking about which “scary” movie we want to watch while my husband scoffs at us. We all love them though. Will definitely look into “Scared Stiff”. Sounds right up our alley.
I too was sad to hear about Sean Connery. He was my very first crush when I was a little girl in the 80’s. I fell in love with him when our local TV station would have one of the original James Bond movies on. He was such a manly man! And that voice! A legend.

Years ago I found a dvd of “The Bat” a b flick starring Agnes Morehead, Vincent Price and Ray Milland. I watched it when I was six years old -scared me so bad I wouldn’t go in the basement for weeks. I showed it to my kids. They were like “Dad… really?” I told them, “ hey I was six!!!”

Happy Halloween! Just be thankful that Hildabeast was not elected. That would have made Halloween even worse.
