Hillary’s Quandary
Did you watch any of the clips of Hillary Clinton’s interview with Fareed Zakaria?
I hate to admit it, but I almost felt sorry for her.
The poor broad is really between a rock and hard place here.
See, here’s the quandary she finds herself in.
The Hillary 2016 campaign sought to recreate the Obama 2008 model. And central to Obama’s campaign model was casting Barack in the role of celebrity – a sort of pop culture icon who just happens to be running for President.
That’s why Obama was seen so often with Hollywood’s movers and shakers.
Ann Coulter was spot-on when, in her book Guilty, she referred to him as a “matinee idol.”
That was the idea. They wanted Obama to be seen more as a matinee idol than a politician.
Even after winning the White House, Barack and Michelle went to great lengths to be seen in the same orbit as celebrities and Hollywood bigwigs.
So when Hillary launched her 2016 campaign, she tried to replicate that.
How many famous celebrities spoke at the 2016 Democrat Convention? I lost count.
There was Meryl Streep, Lena Dunham, America Ferrara, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, Sigourney Weaver, Angela Bassett, Tony Goldwyn, Demi Lovato, Sarah Silverman, and Susan Sarandon. And there might have been more that I don’t remember.
Hillary desperately wanted to glom on to the Hollywood razzle-dazzle.
And that included her “friend” Harvey Weinstein.
But now that Weinstein has become a millstone around her neck, Hillary has to pretend that, really, she wasn’t that close to him.
I mean, she only knew him through politics. And even then, she really didn’t know him that well. It isn’t like they were friends or anything…
See the quandary?
How can Hillary maintain her orbit in the Hollywood firmament while at the same time distancing herself from Harvey Weinstein?
She doesn’t want to abandon the narrative that she is part celebrity/part politician.
But to promote herself as one of the beautiful people means having to be saddled with a pervert like Weinstein.
And the politician part of her has become an expert at distancing herself from anything that might hurt her politically.
When you couple that with Hillary’s penchant for being up to her eyeballs in sexual predators, she’s really in an unenviable position.
And like I said, I almost feel sorry for her.
That’s quite a quandary.
And truthfully, the last thing Hillary should have done was that interview last night.
Because, boy, did Hillary squirm.
"I was just sick…I was shocked, I was appalled." @hillaryclinton on learning of @HarveyWeinstein allegations https://t.co/WHHiBM84Ga

“I consider him a friend. But I didn’t know anything about this!”
"I certainly didn't…I don't know who did" @HillaryClinton, asked if people knew of Weinstein's alleged behavior https://t.co/FnmLvdL8fJ

Did you see that shrug at the very beginning when Zakaria asked if she knew anything?
That was the same shrug she gave when asked about how her hard drives got wiped clean.
I honestly get the impression that Hillary wasn’t expecting the interview to be about Harvey Weinstein.
And if that’s true, it’s pretty naïve of her.
You know, now that I think about it, I don’t feel sorry for her at all.
Her discomfort is actually pretty Schadenfreuderrific.
Does that make me a bad person?
But the truth is, Hillary is in a hell of her own making.
She’s the one who wanted to glom on to Hollywood.
And she’s the one who really believed that doing so would pave the way to her becoming President.
But when you lie down with dogs…
The other quandary Hillary has is all that money Weinstein gave her.
And that’s another reason Hillary should not have done this interview.
The level of squirming reached Spinal Tap 11 when Zakaria asked her about giving up that cash.
"Well there's no one to give it back to" @hillaryclinton on pressure to return @HarveyWeinstein campaign donations https://t.co/TSWv0WXIeK

Wow. That was painful.
Basically what Hillary is saying here is “I’m not parting with one thin dime.”
Come on. If she always donates 10% of her income to charity, and intends to continue doing that, how else could you interpret that statement?
And to get caught on television basically admitting that she won’t rid herself of that money was not a good look for her.
I don’t know how Hillary was caught off guard by the question, but she clearly was.
And for someone whose every public statement is so carefully crafted, that’s quite a surprise.
Why didn’t her army of staffers prepare her to deal with these questions?
In a lot of ways, this interview did more damage to Hillary Clinton’s reputation than collapsing like a sack of potatoes on September 11th of last year.
And that is yet another quandary Hillary finds herself in.
After all, she’s in the middle of a book tour and certainly can’t avoid doing interviews.
But for the time being, those interviews will inevitably include questions about her “friend” Harvey Weinstein and his buckets of campaign cash.
So what’s an old broad to do?
Like I said. It’s quite a quandary.

Dianny, Hillary has always glommed on to people she thought could bring her to power—her husband, and celebrities. You are right, she can’t distance herself from Weinstein without either claiming to be 1) the most clueless woman on the planet, or 2) surrendering her celebrity status. She also can’t “stand with women” when she clearly has always stood by her husband.
The popcorn has never tasted more delicious.
You can tell when old Hillary doesn’t like a question, her jaw gets tight and her eyes are squinting and throwing daggers at who ever is asking the question whether it is a reporter or a congressional interrogator and she lifts her head up higher. It is fun to watch and glad it is not me who is asking the questions.
Like you said Dianny, Hillary is in a hell of her own making and it couldn’t happen to a better person. Serves her right!
((( I ))) certainly don’t feel sorry for her!
‘Does that make me a bad person?’ No, you are just fine and very perceptive.
Hillary IS a predator.
