Is 58 still young?

Is 58 still young?

It kills me to admit this, but today I turn 58.

If this were the Middle Ages, 58 would be considered old – very old. Like one foot in the ground old.

But is 58 considered old today?

Boy, I hope not.

Though, after spending the last few days getting body slammed by a Lupus flare, I feel less like 58 and more like 85. On the up side, the flare seems to be backing off, which is good. I haven’t lifted weights since Saturday. That’s the longest I’ve gone without working out since last October when I had the flu. Exercise is a like a drug. It’s addictive as hell and I’m going through withdrawal.

But when it comes to my birthday, one thing stays consistent: the weather sucks. It’s snowing. Yup. April 22nd and there’s already about 2 inches of snow on the ground, and it’s still coming down. Just like last year.

“Happy birthday, Dianny! Here’s a crap-ton of snow! I hope it’s in your size!”

Anyroad.

I have no special plans for my birthday. Then again I never do. Sure, every year I hope someone brings me a German Chocolate cake. And every year I am disappointed.

Okay, that’s not fair. Several years ago my Dad stopped by with a big slice of German Chocolate cake from Rustin’s Diner.

Since the worst of this flare appears to be behind me, I thought I’d ring in 58 by getting back to my workout regimen – even if it ends up a truncated version (which it probably will). Doing frog squats while holding a 60 pound barbell on my shoulders is probably not in the offing this soon after a monster flare. But I’ll do what I can.

Now that I think of it, 58 on me isn’t old at all. I have far more muscle at 58 than I did at 28. And there isn’t a jar on this earth I cannot open.

Happy Birthday, dear Editrix. No, 58 is not old (compared to being in your 70s). Enjoy your day, as we enjoy your posts every day.

Happy Birthday Dianny!! Yes, 58 is STILL young. It all depends on your mindset. I turned 69 last December and, other than some lower back arthritis, I still feel GREAT and consider myself young! And you are “DA BOMB” – visit your page every day and enjoy it immensely!!

Happy Happy Birthday Dianny! Warmest wishes being sent to you.
We’re the same age btw. That’s why I get all your pop culture references.
I sure can’t do squats with or without a barbell!
Leave the snow. It will melt.

It’s supposed to be 59 tomorrow. So I’m leaving it. Mostly because, as a matter of principle, I refuse to shovel snow that falls after April 15th.

Well, since both my daughters are in their 50s, I’d say “No” to your question. I’m on my 81st lap around that big yellow thing that has absolutely NO influence whatever on this planet’s weather, so 58 is still a young woman to me.

Incidentally, kudos & lauds on your mastery of diction, mechanics, syntax, whitespace, and “voice.”

    Appreciated, con mucho gusto.

I was 58 once. Don’t expect much. The best thing about aging is the astonishing increase in the list of things you don’t care about anymore. I wish you the best and thank you for bring smiles and happiness to an old guy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 58? Heck, you’re just a kid! I’m closing in on 80 and can’t remember what I did last week much less what I did 20 years ago — I’m told it’s “senility,” but I call it “plausible deniability.” In this age of Covid, perhaps the bakery will deliver your German Chocolate Cake. So go crazy! And I my Irish nana used to tell me, “Dance like no one is watching!”

Dianny, if I had your address I’d send you a German Choc Cake from here on the Left coast.. each day I look forward to your column first, Kirk S second, then 3rd watch recorded Gutfeld from the night before. How could I not be informed, and amused, because of all these. You & they are my daily vaccination/inoculation against the drive-by MSM. Thank you so much, and happy birthday.

Happy birthday from a fellow 1963 baby. You only get old when you quit looking forward to tomorrow. Which in my experience means you are young until you die.

Happy Birthday! 58 is young. It’s the new 38. I’m 63 and when I look at pictures of women that age 60 years ago, they looked 73. You take care of yourself despite your health challenges. You will be a spitfire like mom when you are 89! The one good thing about these times is that we are not defined by the number, only by our actions.

Anyroad, (Dianny’s word)…Happy belated Birthday, Dianny. Glad you’re feeling better and able to get in a work out or two. You’re just a young pup…and you’re only as old as you decide to be. Wishing you many, many more.

Take care of YOU! Stay safe!

Happy birthday from a soon to be 56 year old, born in a month and year when that wretched alky LBJ was President, LSD was still called “try this,” and the Beatles were still “fab”. Dianny, we are the same age as far as I am concerned!

Best wishes and a happy birthday! All the best; I enjoy your photoshopping and especially your writing!
