Just another socialist in a sea of socialists

Socialist Bernie Sanders has officially announced that he is running for President again.

Except this time around, the DNC is more aligned with Bernie’s socialism than it was in 2016 when they scuttled his chances to anoint Hillary the nominee.

With Tom Perez and his Identity Politics Army, the DNC isn’t the Clinton machine it was in 2016.

And on its face, that seems like good news for the socialist grandpa who screams at clouds.

But is it?

This time around Bernie isn’t the only socialist running for the Democrat nomination.  Instead, he will be just one more socialist in a vast sea of socialists.

And with the DNC’s emphasis on electing women of color and minorities, Bernie doesn’t exactly fit the bill.

He’s old, white and male.  By my count, that’s three strikes.

Add to that the fact that he’s Jewish and, considering the Democrat Party’s sloppy wet kiss to anti-Semites, that might make Bernie persona non grata.

Sure, Bernie has the creds.  And in 2016 he proved wildly successful in attracting the “we’ve never really worked an honest job in our lives” millennials who see Government as their personal sugar daddy.

But those millennials had a binary choice in 2016 – vote for the anointed crook Clinton or vote for the socialist.

That isn’t the case this time around.

Now they have a veritable 57 flavors of socialists from which to choose.

Each are promising oodles of taxpayer-funded goodies from “free” college to “free” healthcare to “guaranteed” jobs.  And, for the particularly lazy socialist voter, “free” money for those unwilling to work.

So why go for the decrepit old white male coot when you can get all the same goodies in a caramel-colored or female package?

The fact is, the Left’s full-throated embrace of Identity Politics may just be Bernie’s undoing this time around.

Now, that doesn’t mean that those who are still stinging over the DNC sabotaging Bernie in 2016 aren’t quivering with excitement over his return.  I’m sure there are plenty of his former voters who are delighted he’s in the race.

But I see several problems with Bernie’s run this time around.

First, the Hillary fans who still have #ImWithHer in their Twitter profiles despise him and believe he caused Hillary to lose.

It’s a stupid argument.  But they’re Hillary fans who still have #ImWithHer in their Twitter profiles.  What do you expect?

Second, young Identity Politics-driven voters have a smorgasbord of choices in 2020.  There’s Kamala, Cory, Julián and Bernie the Next Generation (AKA Tulsi Gabbard).

Third, young white voters who want to appear “woke” by supporting a candidate of color will probably gravitate toward Kamala.

Fourth, Bernie is old.  In the age of Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie’s age may be a negative. Young voters this time around might prefer a socialist closer to their own age.

Fifth, don’t underestimate the media’s investment in a candidate.  Getting Obama elected gave the news media the impression that their job is to choose the nominee.  And from what I can see, there are two candidates the media would LOVE to see as the Democrats’ 2020 pick: Kamala Harris or Beto O’Rourke. As far as the media goes, Bernie isn’t even a blip on the radar.

And finally, with so many socialists to choose from this time around, Bernie has a hell of a lot of competition.

Though the DNC has gone all-in on Bernie’s socialist agenda, I still don’t see them as a friend to Bernie.  That isn’t to say they will stab him in the back the way the Hillary embeds in the DNC did in 2016.  But I don’t think they’re particularly thrilled with his entrance into the race.

The DNC is fully invested in securing a nominee that reflects their single-minded focus on Identity Politics.  So though the climate is radically different from 2016 (emphasis on radical), Bernie will probably still be seen as a spoiler by the powers that be.

Hey, I could be wrong.  But my gut tells me Bernie’s time has come and gone.

I think after the debacle of 2016, most Democrat voters are desperate for “new blood.”  And that just isn’t Bernie Sanders.

Carmela? Spartacus (or Testicleese)? Warren (Squaw Running Scared)? Bernie doesn’t stand a chance. How can he out-flank any of them on the left? And he’s too much of a socialist to outflank them in the center.
