Say, remember back in 2019 when Kamala’s presidential campaign was doing so badly she was appearing in front of a bedsheet backdrop?
Sure you do! I wrote about HERE.
Talk about low-budget production quality.
Well, for some reason, in their upcoming lickspittle feature on Kamala Harris, Vogue decided to go with a cover photo of Kamala standing awkwardly in front of a bedsheet.
Oh, the mocking possibilities are endless! And, let me tell you, I had so much fun this morning making the most of them.
Whose idea was it to pose Kamala in front of a bedsheet?
Is Vogue’s fashion editor a lover of irony; or is he or she a Liz Warren supporter?
Considering how Kamala began her career, Vogue choosing a satin bedsheet for a backdrop seems just a tad on-the-nose, know what I mean?
Last night I noticed that Vogue was trending on Twitter. And it didn’t take long to figure out why.
Apparently Kamala’s people are furious. This shot of an awkward Kamala standing in front of a bedsheet wasn’t the picture they wanted.
Journalist Yashar Ali reported on the bedsheet kerfuffle late last night on Twitter.
Some fashion magazine news….
1. The February Vogue cover featuring VP-elect Kamala Harris has been widely criticized on social media this evening
But according to a source familiar with the publication plans, this is not the cover that the Vice President-elect’s team expected
2. In the cover that they expected, Vice President-elect Harris was wearing a powder blue suit. That was the cover that the Vice President-elect’s team and the Vogueteam, including Anna Wintour, mutually agreed upon…which is standard for fashion magazines.
3. To be clear, this Vogue cover of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris is real.
It’s just that per a source familiar, this is not the cover that was mutually agreed upon. The agreed upon cover had VP-elect Harris in a powder blue suit.
So folks feel blindsided this evening.
Were they not there when the photographer told Kamala to stand in front of that bedsheet? Why pose for that stupid picture if you didn’t like the concept?
Well, needless to say, Kamala’s devoted fans are outraged.
They’re horrified that Vogue chose a picture of Kamala in those stupid sneakers.
You know, the same stupid sneakers Kamala fans gushed over during the campaign.
And, naturally, they found racism.
Dissing the brand new, widely beloved, woman of color VP before she’s even inaugurated. That’s… an interesting stance for Vogue to take. @voguemagazine— Pamela “Impeach Again Now” (@bashpanache) January 10, 2021
“Widely beloved.” Oh, my sides!
So widely beloved, in fact, that in the waning days of her painful primary campaign, Kamala Harris was standing in front of a bedsheet backdrop with the sound and lighting quality of a late night cable access show from the 80s.
Expect four years of this you guys.
Four years of the same magazines who ignored the beautiful Melania struggling to turn Kamala Harris into the next Twiggy.
Four years of Kamala’s people demanding editorial control over every single cover shoot she gets.
And four years of Kamala’s super-fans shrieking like cats in a blender whenever some magazine dares to “diss” the “widely beloved, woman of color.”
I’ll close with my upgraded Vogue cover for the “widely beloved” Kamala.
One final note:
This is for the February cover. How much do you want to bet Vogue caves to social media pressure from the Kamala super-fans (and the Kamala PR people) and changes the cover shot to the one Team Kamala wants?
I’m saying the odds are good. What do you say?
Aaaand, I called it. Last night (Tuesday, January 19), Vogue announced that it would be releasing a new cover photo “after social media backlash.”
The limited edition, with a cover image previously used online, will be published after inauguration ceremonies on Wednesday, when Harris will become the first person of Black and South Asian descent sworn in as vice-president.
Four years of this is coming our way. With the media issuing mea culpas for not being sufficiently obsequious to Queen Kamala. It’s going to be nauseating.
