Merry Christmas everybody! For a Christmas card this year, I thought a Nativity woodcut from my favorite artist Albrecht Dürer would be a nice change of pace.
I’ll be home for Christmas. But not in the way the song meant.
Since I’ve been dogged with a nasty-assed head cold, I don’t want to be breathing my germs all over my parents, so I’m staying here with Daisy.
Speaking of Daisy, as sweet as she is, she is still in the “little hellion” phase of kittenhood. So I had to forgo any Christmas decorations this year. Nothing is safe around Daisy. She gets into absolutely everything.
A few weeks ago, she figured out how to open the medicine cabinet in the upstairs bathroom. I found my toothbrush, the tube of toothpaste, and my razor lying on the stairs. To prevent future incursions into the medicine cabinet, I coated the wooden frame with citrus oil. Cats can’t stand citrus oil. I’m happy to report it has done the trick.
Since I didn’t want to find a string of Christmas lights dragged halfway down the stairs to the basement or lying in a heap on the living room floor, I concluded that decorating would be unwise.
But last night, the lack of Christmas lights on Christmas Eve depressed me so much, I bundled two strings of lights into a bunch and dangled them from the doorway between the living room and dining room.
It ain’t fancy, but at least it provides some hint of the holiday.
Yeah, pitiful. On the plus side, in the dark, it looks much nicer and Daisy has thus far left it alone — mostly because she can’t reach it.
I’m a bit bummed not to be spending Christmas at my parents. For one thing, I enjoy their company. For another thing, they’re having sauerbraten and I LOVE sauerbraten.
For Christmas lunch here at Casa Dianny I’ll be enjoying Underwood Deviled Ham on a vegan sandwich wrap. And for Christmas dinner, I’m pulling out all the stops: two scrambled eggs and American cheese on a vegan sandwich wrap.
Try not to be too envious.
Thanks to everyone who sent a Christmas donation to PatriotRetort.com. The cards and contributions are greatly appreciated.
I wish you all the compliments of the season.
