An open letter to Senator Ted Cruz

Dear Senator Ted Cruz:

I write to you as someone who voted for you in the Republican primaries, and who donated to your campaign despite my limited income. Several months ago, from this very site, I officially endorsed you for President.

Though I was deeply disappointed when you dropped out of the race, I realized that the very threats we faced that prompted me to vote for you are still ever present.

This nation cannot survive as a Constitutional Republic that embraces freedom, liberty, individual sovereignty and the free market if, God forbid, Hillary Clinton is elected.

That was true when you were campaigning.

It is equally true today.

We are just shy of two months away from the Presidential election and as yet, despite your own warnings of the threats a Hillary presidency would pose, you still have not chosen to support the only candidate positioned to defeat her: Donald J. Trump.

And, frankly, I am mystified.

I do not understand how the very warnings you uttered about the danger of Hillary Clinton suddenly are not grave enough to prompt you to encourage your supporters to swallow their pride and hurt feelings, and do everything possible to defeat her.

As I said, I was very disappointed when you dropped out after Indiana. In truth, I was crestfallen.

But at some point, I looked past my own disappointment and chose instead to see the bigger picture: Preserving the United States of America.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before the fall. – Proverbs 16:18

I could not cling to my pride while this nation hangs in the balance. My ego is not more valuable than America.

Let me give you an analogy.

Let’s say both you and Donald Trump are firemen. Both of you are in line to be selected as the new Fire Chief. You both make a strong case for the importance of leadership in fighting fires and keeping people safe.

In the end, Donald Trump is chosen as Fire Chief and you are not.

A five-alarm fire is called in and your station rushes to the scene.

The building is engulfed in flames. People are trapped inside. Lives are at stake.

Instead of helping to battle the burning building and rescue the people, you choose to do nothing. You strip off your gear, sit down on the curb and simply watch the fire burn.

Worse still, the firemen on your crew who hoped you would be the next Chief follow suit and drop down to the curb beside you.

All your talk about strong leadership and keeping people safe waft away like a whole lot of smoke.

Throughout your campaign for the nomination, you made an effective case against Hillary Clinton. But now, you have stripped off your gear and chosen instead to stand on the sidelines doing nothing to stop her from burning the country to the ground.

Your concern for the safety and security of the American people who will be trapped inside the burning building of a Clinton Presidency has wafted away like a whole lot of smoke.

To sit on the sidelines and surrender the fight because you were not chosen to be the general does not make you a principled man.

What’s more. If you continue to do so, it will only prove to me that the voters chose correctly in not nominating you.

You will not be the man that I thought you were when I put my support behind your campaign.

Americans of all stripes who believe in freedom and prosperity have a shared adversary. A corrupt and venal woman who would sell out this country for her own vainglorious ambition and greed.

She hasn’t become any less of a threat just because you are not our nominee.

I ask you to consider the fate of this nation.

Many who cling to your candidacy are choosing to openly work against the only man with any hope of defeating this wretched woman.

I am asking for you to speak out, to stand up for what is right, to place the interests of the nation ahead of your own wounded pride.

Senator Cruz, I am asking for your help to bring us together in this common goal.

When you closed your announcement speech at Liberty University in March of last year, you said these words:

This is our fight. The answer will not come from Washington. It will come only from the men and women across this country, from men and women, from people of faith, from lovers of liberty, from people who respect the Constitution.
It will only come as it has come at every other time of challenge in this country, when the American people stand together and say we will get back to the principles that have made this country great. We will get back and restore that shining city on a hill that is the United States of America.

The time has come, Senator Cruz, just as it has come at every other time of challenge in this country. We must stand together.

Won’t you step up and join us?

You don’t understand Ted Cruz and you don’t understand what a Real Christian man is or how he thinks. I know Ted Cruz and it’s not Pride that that drives him, it’s his love for God and his family. Ted Cruz has never thrown anyone under the bus unlike the so called Conservatives and Conservative bloggers who complained for 8 years about Obama not following the law or the Constitution and as soon as Trump came out screaming WALL all abandoned and lied about the one man that they had been crying for. Ted Cruz loves this Country, he has been proving it all his political life and he still is. Trump has never reached out to true Conservatives, as a matter of fact he said he didn’t need Conservatives to win. So get off your high horse and leave Ted and his supporters alone.

    This is a True Leader.

Hilarious that someone lecturing others about what it means to be a “Real Christian” has “Fuck off Trumptard” on his avatar picture. I’m dying laughing! — Dianny

Yes, he can lead the wienie roast as the country burns. Good job! I’m surprised you can see me from high atop your morally superior perch. Thanks for stopping by!

Right on cue! Thanks for proving Dianny’s point.

I too voted for Ted Cruz in the primaries, BUT, now it is time to make a last ditch attempt to save our country. At this point, the only chance we have is to keep the Clintons out of the White House and away from the Supreme Court. Voting for Trump is our only option.

Sadly, most elected republicans are worried that Trump will drag down the ticket and cost them their cushy jobs co-habitating with their liberal counterparts getting fat on lobbying dollars and making laws for we common folk that they exempt themselves from. Not only do they avoid being seen with him, many are actively working against him. They traded whatever ethics and humanity they may have had once for power and greed.

    My story, My feelings also!

I would like your permission to copy (with credit to you) your letter to Senator Cruz
to include in my return envelope to his campaign office, the next time I receive a
    donation request from Senator Cruz.

Your open letter to Senator Cruz clearly states my opinion much better than I could
express it in any letter to Senator Cruz.

Yes, Dianny, a REAL Christian man! That’s Cruz. And ONLY Cruz. So Christian, he doesn’t even have to forgive those who trespass against him and that whole thing about screw whatever the people want it’s about me me me!!! Totally Christian. He gets a pass. There’s something about one man’s butthurt taking priority over who the people overwhelmingly voted for in the Bible, dontcha know.

Oh! By the way, St. Anonymous, if you admire Cruz so much, the mega super duper Christian, why would you have an avatar with naughty curse word on it? Hmmm?
    For shame!

Former Cruz supporter who isn’t insane or suicidal as to let Hillary win the election.

    Right on the mark.

Many of us have always felt that Trump is left of the GOP establishment and likely as left as Hillary on many important issues. Despite bragging about his negotiating ability, his inability to ignore personal insults or to be overly gracious to those who speak well of him make him an easy mark to be played on the international stage – especially by players like Putin have an espionage background. He retaliates when he doesn’t get his way, which raises issues of abuse with respect to executive orders. He is a deal maker who has made clear he will work with both sides. He has been a liberal all of his life until recently, and many of us believe he will govern as one – cutting deals with the Dems on comprehensive immigration reform, health care, taxes, spending, and even Supreme Court nominees. Hillary will be a disaster, but many of us feel that Trump could be even more dangerous.
