Reparations: A cynical vote-buying scheme

It isn’t by chance that this push for race-based Reparations is happening in the run up to the 2020 election.

The Democrats know full well that no bill to pay race-based reparations (to people who were never slaves, paid for by people who were never slaveholders) will ever pass through Congress, let alone get to President Trump’s desk.

They also know that race-based Reparations is logistically impossible and most likely unconstitutional.

So why the dog and pony show?

Well, I have some thoughts on that.

First, it’s a ham-handed and cynical vote-buying scheme. That’s pretty much a given.

Democrats want to campaign in 2020 on “Look, black people! We’re the party that wants to hand other people’s money over to you because of the color of your skin!  Vote for us!!!”

But I think it’s more than that.

There are plenty of ways to attempt to bribe people for votes.  And Democrats in 2020 are already utilizing all of them – “free” college, “free” healthcare, “free” childcare, “free” rent and on and on and on.

So why heap a dead-end idea like race-based Reparations onto the already teetering tower of graft?

Well, two reasons.

First, the Democrat Party has gone all-in as the party of Illegal Aliens. And this flood of illegals is most harmful to low-skilled and no-skilled American workers — many of whom are minorities.

Democrats need a sop to black voters to make up for their party’s harmful support of illegals. So they stage this dog and pony show on race-based Reparations that they know will never go anywhere in hopes that it’s enough to bamboozle black voters.

But the other reason is bigger. I think the Democrats are growing nervous about their traditional lock on the “black vote.”

Thanks to the work President Trump has accomplished to create an economic environment that grows and expands, blacks in America are seeing the lowest unemployment rate in recorded history.  Wages are increasing.  Food stamp participation is shrinking.  And all of these very real economic benefits are improving President Trump’s favorability among black Americans.

Could it be that Democrats fear enough black voters will walk away from them in 2020 to vote for the guy who is actually, concretely improving their lives?

The fact is, if Democrats do not receive their standard 93-98% of the black vote, they are going to be in serious trouble.

And since they have no actual plan to improve the lives of blacks – or anybody else for that matter – are the Democrats dangling race-based Reparations under their noses in hopes of enticing them back?

Not only is it bribery, but it’s also the old “politics of good intentions” scam.

Sure, race-based Reparations is an impossibility.  But look how much we care, black Americans! We really mean well!

And not only is it bribery and the politics of good intentions, it is also the bigotry of low expectations.

Democrats have such a low opinion of black voters that they believe all they need to do is dangle the prospect of free money in front of them and blacks will step and fetch-it by voting Democrat.

And in that sense it is even more craven and cynical than paying a homeless man ten bucks to register to vote as a Democrat. Because at least at the end of the day, that homeless man has ten dollars in his pocket.  Race-based Reparations isn’t going to happen at all.  It’s a promise of money that the Democrats know they can’t deliver.

But they’re pushing it anyway — to buy votes and, as an added bonus, have another reason to paint Republicans as racists.

It’s Demagoguery 101.

Because promising the impossible while simultaneously demagoguing is all the Democrat Party has left.

And these cynical Democrats may think that this will deliver them a win. But it isn’t a win for the country.  Nor is it a win for the black Americans the Democrats are exploiting in this craven and cynical vote-buying scheme.
