DHS Secretary, the always stupid Jeh Johnson, appeared on Fox News’ Special Report and told Bret Baier that the radical Islamist who carried out the terrorist attack in Orlando appeared to be “self-radicalized.”

What in the Sam Hill is “self-radicalized?”

Well, that’s probably a rhetorical question, because we all know “self-radicalized” is another way the Obama Administration furthers the “Move along; no Islam here” narrative they are so deeply committed to.

Here’s the ten-minute long interview if you want to suffer through it:

But here’s the relevant text:

Johnson: “What we do know at this point, it appears that this was a case of self-radicalization. It was not a terrorist-directed attack, as we say. It was more in the nature of a ‘terrorist-inspired’ attack. He does not appear to have been a part of any group or any cell. And the environment we’re in right now is reflected by this horrific attack where we have to be concerned about the homegrown violent extremism. And for both the president and me, homeland security, the protection of the American people against this type of threat, is our number one priority.”

What an amalgamation of crap.

In late May, ISIS released a new propaganda message urging supporters to carry out violent attacks against both civilian and military targets within the US as part of Ramadan [hat tip Breitbart]:

“Ramadan, the month of conquest and jihad. Get prepared, be ready … to make it a month of calamity everywhere for the non-believers … especially for the fighters and supporters of the Caliphate in Europe and America,” said the audio message, urging ISIS sympathizers in the West to attack if they cannot travel to the group’s self-declared Caliphate in Syria and Iraq, Reuters reports.
“The smallest action you do in their heartland is better and more enduring to us than what you would if you were with us. If one of you hoped to reach the Islamic State, we wish we were in your place to punish the Crusaders day and night,” the message reportedly added.
ISIS encouraged its supporters to launch lone wolf attacks “to win the great award of martyrdom.”

But no! Nothing to see here folks. Move along. He was not responding to ISIS’ call. He was self-radicalized.

Johnson, like Obama (as I mentioned yesterday), wants us to believe that if a Muslim gets fired up to commit jihad for ISIS by trolling terrorist websites or social media that no other human being was involved in “radicalizing” the guy. But why post these things on the Internet if not to be able to influence individuals whom you have never met? ISIS uses social media to reach far more people than they could simply by recruiting them in person. Whether Omar Mateen was taking his marching orders from the Internet or from the Imam in his Mosque, he was getting those marching orders from other terrorists.

This is nothing more than political semantics.

Jeh Johnson really does want you to believe that unless the FBI finds an official ISIS Membership form in Omar Mateen’s home, he couldn’t possibly have been part of a larger terrorist organization, rather he was simply “self-radicalized.”

The truth is, whether Mateen were part of a larger terrorist cell or not, the end result would be the same. It doesn’t matter how he came to believe in committing jihad in the name of Allah; he came to believe in committing jihad in the name of Allah. Trying to differentiate Mateen from an organized terrorist cell by identifying him as “self-radicalized” is a difference without a distinction.

What Johnson is doing here by labeling Omar Mateen “self-radicalized” is trying to minimize the threat here at home from radical Islam and more specifically ISIS by attempting to divorce Mateen’s actions from the larger terrorist group. In so doing, Johnson hopes to somehow absolve the Obama Administration of any culpability for its failure to protect the homeland from this threat.

Michael Goodwin has an outstanding editorial at the New York Post today regarding Obama’s public tantrum during yesterday’s press conference:

He [Obama] meant his attacks to be especially vicious, but the spectacle was more sad than provocative. The president needs a rest from the job as much as we need a new president.
Forty-nine innocent people were gunned down in a gay nightclub by an Islamic terrorist, another 53 lie wounded, yet Obama feels only his own pain. Public confidence in his effort to combat terrorism on his own peculiar terms while soft-pedaling the links to Islam were among the casualties in the Pulse nightclub. The world knows he’s a failure and he can’t stand the embarrassment.

It is this self-indulgent embarrassment of Barack Obama that prompts his DHS Secretary to try and make a distinction between a terrorist who is part of a larger cell and this “self-radicalized” terrorist.

But there is no difference. The motivations are the same: They have declared war on America in the name of Allah, and will carry out attacks through any means necessary.

Meanwhile the deaf, dumb and blind in the Obama Administration are picking nits over terminology.

Mateen took two very expensive eight and ten day trips to Saudi Arabia and perhaps beyond. He probably radicalized himself watching the in flight movies.

The administration claiming that he was self-radicalized does not square with Obama and Hillary telling people “…you did not build that”.
