Someone has to get fifth place

Someone has to get fifth place

As anticipated Joe Biden won a decisive victory in South Carolina.  Also anticipated, Pocahasbeen scored the coveted fifth place finish.

Congrats, Liz!

Despite some spectacular losses in South Carolina, there’s no reason for any of the also-rans to drop out today or tomorrow* — not with Super Tuesday just three days away.

[*I don’t consider Tom Steyer an actual candidate for President, so his dropping out last night doesn’t count in my rubric. Steyer should never have tossed his tartan tie into the ring to begin with.]

Klobuchar will stick it out because she has a good chance of winning Minnesota on Tuesday – or at least coming in second and scoring some delegates.

Buttigieg won’t drop out because in his mind he is the Savior we’ve been waiting for.

Pastor Pete has been dreaming of being President since middle school.  He believes (as Beto once said of himself) “he was born for this.” Which might explain why his concession speeches all sound like victory speeches.

Bloomberg isn’t going to drop out because his entire campaign strategy is based on carpet bombing Super Tuesday states.  So it would be foolish to think he’d drop out before Tuesday.

Pocahasbeen won’t drop out because someone has to hang around to get fifth place, am I right?

Well, let’s not be too hard on Liz.  She might get fourth place in some states.

She might even claw her way to a second place finish in California.  But that’s the state that sent the thoroughly embarrassing Kamala Harris to the Senate, so we know their judgment is impaired.

Pocahasbeen’s fifth place finish yesterday didn’t come as a galloping shock.  Real Clear Politics South Carolina polling average had Liz firmly in fifth place going into Saturday.

I said after Liz went on the warpath against Michael Bloomberg, that though she might have damaged Bloomberg and helped deflate his over-inflated polling numbers, Pocahasbeen probably did little to help herself.

Though, to be honest, I’m fairly certain Bloomberg’s debate performances would’ve deflated his standing in the polls even without Liz’s shrill attacks.  The guy has zero personality.

Which means Liz’s frigid, angry scolding at the debate might have been wholly unnecessary.

In other words, she damaged herself for no reason.

From her fifth place concession speech last night it appears that Pocahasbeen is finally directing some of her fire at the candidate who is in her way.

But at this point, I think it’s too little too late.

Besides, claiming you are the only one who can defeat Donald Trump when you have yet to successfully defeat your Democrat challengers strains credulity.

I think Tuesday will be the death knell for some of the candidates currently clogging up the Democrat field.

But hubris is the wild card here.

Buttigieg, Warren and Bloomberg all suffer from boundless hubris.  And their outsized egos might keep them in the race even if they do no better than third, fourth or fifth place in almost every Super Tuesday state.

Of all the also-rans, the only ones I see possibly dropping out after Tuesday are Tulsi Gabbard and Amy Klobuchar.

Naturally pundits and other DNC operatives who are desperate to stop the Marxist juggernaut think Biden’s blow-out victory in South Carolina means he is now viable enough to win. So they’re demanding Buttigieg, Bloomberg and Klobuchar drop out to clear the way for hapless Joe.

Of course, this chorus also includes Cruise Ship Captain Kristol:

The assumption is that these candidates’ supporters will automatically get behind old, crusty Joe by default, and thereby prevent a Bernie nomination.

But is that even plausible?

Polling shows Bernie is the second choice candidate for those supporting Buttigieg and Warren (as well as the second choice for those supporting Biden).  The only candidate with double-digit polling whose bulk of support shifts to Biden is Michael Bloomberg.

Which makes sense. I think the majority of people supporting Mini-Mike are the ones who don’t like the Marxists but are afraid that Joe is too brain-addled and confused to be a viable nominee.

I don’t doubt that Bloomberg’s presence on Super Tuesday will hobble Joe.

But Mini-Mike ain’t dropping out before Super Tuesday.  That would be like spending a half billion dollars on your wedding and deciding to cancel three days before the big event.

So enough of your wish-casting, you Stop Bernie folks. Joe is stuck sharing the so-called “moderate” lane with Bloomberg this Tuesday whether you like it or not.

This is why I said the other day that Joe’s South Carolina victory really won’t give him the boost he needs going in to Super Tuesday.

So long as Bloomberg is on the ballot, Joe won’t be able to make the most out of his South Carolina win.

It also doesn’t help that in order to shore up his so-called Firewall, Joe spent so much time in South Carolina, he hasn’t been campaigning in the Super Tuesday states.

Plus, and I’m repeating myself, Super Tuesday is three days away.  That doesn’t give Joe much time to capitalize on yesterday’s victory.

Meanwhile, Warren’s fifth place finish in South Carolina coupled with her fourth place finishes in both Nevada and New Hampshire don’t exactly engender confidence from the voters going to the polls on Tuesday.  Which may explain why she is even polling behind Bernie in her home state of Massachusetts.

The best the Stop Bernie people can hope for is Sanders failing to win a clear majority of delegates by the time we get to the Democrat convention. If the voting goes to a second round, they can count on the Super Delegates to steal the nomination away from the Marxist.

And, see, this is exactly why fifth place Pocahasbeen won’t drop out.  She gunning to be the one nominated in a contested convention.

It’s wishful thinking, if you want my opinion.  I can’t imagine the Super Delegates falling in line behind someone who has failed to win a single contest.

But as I said, in the 2020 Democrat race, hubris is the wild card.

And when it comes to who has the most hubris, Fifth Place Warren is the uncontested winner.

Update 1:

Well, look what I just stumbled across on Twitter…

Update 2:

Okay, clearly the Democrat establishment made an offer Pete couldn’t refuse. Hubris can’t comPETE against the Establishment.

I can’t stand any of them, but I detest Liz and Pete for the same reasons.
Ever the victim, and ever so smug. Blech!

    Fifth place.
    Shrill.
    Frigid.
    Angry.
    Scolding.
    Hubris.
Yep, your descriptions pretty well sum up Liz Warren.

Elizabeth Warren still can’t see the futility of a woman running for POTUS in present day America. And no, it’s not that I believe that a female can’t handle the job. But it is the fact that as long as Hillary Clinton is alive, no other woman will be ALLOWED to make history as the first woman POTUS. She couldn’t handle it. She believes with every fiber of her being that it is her birthright. If another woman was even close to the nomination, the Clinton Crime Cabal would unleash one of the most fearsome and devastating attacks ever seen. That candidate wouldn’t have a prayer.
