Tanks in our Capital?! Oh, the HUMANITY!!!

Maybe it’s just me (it’s not), but I think it would be way cool to see a military parade in Washington DC.  And, I’ll be honest, seeing Abrams tanks rolling down the street would send a thrill up my legTM.

But the Leftists who inhabit social media and cable news are clutching their pearls and howling like wounded poodles over the idea of having tanks rolling down the streets of Washington DC in an Independence Day parade.

Heartbreaking and repugnant?

Come on Spiritual Barbie, tanks in a parade would be kick-ass!

I’m channeling so much love for tanks right now that I feel like friggin’ General Patton!

Oh, take the skirt off, Larry.

Jim makes a great point. Tanks rolled down the streets of DC during the inaugurations of Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy.

In fact, it wasn’t just tanks.  They also featured nuclear missiles.

But Trump is going to have tanks and their go-to reaction is to clutch their pearls and holler “Oh, the HUMANITY!!!”

Then there are the nudniks who are kvetching over the damage to the DC streets the tanks would allegedly cause. Like they give a crap.

Oh, and they’re also complaining about the taxpayer money wasted on a big, beautiful parade on the nation’s Independence Day.

Yes, the people who want to force taxpayers to cough up over a trillion bucks to “cancel student debt” and give health insurance to illegal aliens are suddenly worried about the cost of an Independence Day parade.

Now one part of their objection to a big, beautiful parade with tanks is whom it appeals to.

We goobers, gap-tooth garbage people and deplorables love our flag, our country and our military.  And it galls these America-hating wet blankets that the current President of the United States not only grasps that, but shares that love as well.

For the Left, Patriotism is the refuge of the rubes in flyover country.

I keep telling you, it isn’t Trump they hate; they hate us.

And the President preparing a big, beautiful parade complete with tanks irritates the living heck out of them because they know we patriotic Americans will love it.

But the fact is, their hatred for us is only part of the reason they’re throwing a tantrum.

The primary reason can be summed up in what I think is Daniel Greenfield’s best column EVER: “The ‘Abnormalization’ of Trump.”

I’ve mentioned this February 2018 column in a number of posts (including this one and this one) because it is so damn good.

Greenfield explains it this way:

Abnormalization means that everything that Trump does is extraordinary and bad. Even down to eating ice cream or a cheeseburger. His health must be bad because he is a bad person. Nothing is too petty to be treated as an outrage. Including Melania’s shoes. And everything he does is bad because he did it.

Here’s a bit more of the column that deals specifically with a big, beautiful military parade:

President Trump’s proposal for a military parade was met with total and absolute hysteria. Just like any and every other proposal that he makes. Military parades are a “public demonstration of power is characteristic of authoritarian regimes like North Korea and China,” the media screeched.

That must be why we have them every year.

The National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. has been an annual event since it was revived to honor World War II veterans. But it’s subdued compared to other parades across the country which still include tanks and other heavy military equipment. We’ve been having military parades since 1776.

Jefferson, Lincoln and countless other presidents reviewed them and took part in them. And they weren’t just limited to days set aside to honor veterans or for the occasional victory celebration.

The military reflects the character of a nation’s government. In authoritarian states, military parades represent the repressive power of the tyranny. In free nations, they show the power of the people. A tank, like a gun, is a tool that is not good or evil. It’s the use that men make of it, that makes it so.

We knew that during the Cold War.

President Kennedy’s inaugural parade included Pershing, Nike and Hercules nuclear missiles. But he was just topping President Eisenhower who had an M65 Atomic Cannon along with four companies of tanks and artillery. Truman’s inaugural parade had a squadron of B-52 bombers flying overhead.

If President Trump’s inauguration had shown off a weapon that could destroy an entire city, the media would have had a fit. But President Kennedy had watched a line of tanks pass in front of his reviewing stand in a public demonstration of power characteristic of authoritarian regimes like China and Camelot.

The hysteria over the military parade is typical of the ‘abnormalization’ of President Trump.

Greenfield is spot-on. Even the things that are commonplace have to be treated as something horrific and abnormal just because it’s President Trump doing it.

Add to that the Trump-haters’ need to assign the most venal motives to everything this President does, and you can understand why they’re in such a tizzy over a freaking parade.

And naturally, they are all describing tomorrow’s Independence Day parade in DC as Trump throwing a parade for himself.

Like this humorless dink:

Yes, Trump celebrating America’s Independence with a national parade in Washington is a “tribute to himself.”

Good take, Galaxy Brain.

And it isn’t just some anonymous rando who thinks this way. This galaxy take is also coming from dinks like Bill Kristol.

These hyperventilating hysterics want so desperately to believe that the made-up tyrannical Monster Trump they’ve created in their fevered brains actually exists in real life.

Spoiler alert: He doesn’t.

But I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they genuinely fear that these tanks will be deployed to run over people in the street like Trump is Maduro and America Venezuela.

Which is all kinds of ironic when you consider that they LOVE Maduro and want to turn America into Venezuela.

I mean their reaction is so completely insane, even resident NeverTrump scold David French, who usually takes the side of the Trump-hating Lefties, can’t miss the absurdity of it all.

If there’s a livestream of this big, beautiful military parade, you can bet I’ll be watching it.

To quote the song, I love a parade.

So bring on the tanks!

Lift up the stars and stripes! (Especially the Betsy Ross flag.)

Let the puny, whimpering prats of the ResistanceLOL kvetch all they like. It’ll roll off of me like rain on duck’s back.

Let’s party like it’s 1776, my friends.

This is still America.

Bet lunch and a beer the Betsy Ross (The Butcher of Philadelphia) flag makes an appearance in the parade tomorrow. I’ll be looking for it.

I’m going to the Betsy Ross House tomorrow & might just buy a T shirt with the “offending” flag on it.

Oh, and speaking of the parade, in his usual smug way, Juan Williams on The Five today totally agreed with the screeching leftist media that this parade is “all about Trump”. Here’s a hint Juan: IT’S ABOUT AMERICA.

I would go and take my kids and Grandkids if I could get somebody else to drive….. an hour or so South and would rather take an arse whoopin’ than drive North up 95…… Greenfield and Dianny are absolutely correct. The kucks in the LSM find offense at anything TRUMP!

When Trump first proposed this (I think he originally wanted a Veteran’s Day parade or Memorial Day) some twink on Twitter was sarcastically going on about “we could put folks in colonial costumes and Revolutionary War uniforms”
When I asked if he ever heard of the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps … he blocked me ….

As it so happens, I do NOT like parades. Waste of time in my part of the woods. However, the tanks and other military equipment might be welcome accompaniment for the questionable dignitaries, expensive bands, and messy horses — if one was to watch some portion of a parade.

And I am very, very tired of flower petals and seeds being tortured onto surfaces that would be best if painted. Hear that, “Tournament of Roses”

Love the sound of martial music…and marching to a Sousa classic and other patriotic airs is as inspiring to the marcher as it is to the crowd. This kind of celebration is long overdue — “The Army and Navy forever, Three cheers for the red, white, and blue!”

  • July 4, 2019 at 10:34 am

One more thought on the celebration today: in a letter to his wife on 3 July 1776, the day after independence was declared and the day before the final text of the DoI was passed by Congress, Adams wrote: “I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shows, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”
