It was reported yesterday that another acquaintance of Tara Reade confirms that Reade told her of the alleged sexual assault back in the 1990s. And the Washington Post’s report on this woman’s confirmation has got to be the most convoluted version of the typical “Republicans Pounce” narrative ever written.
Look at this:
“Developments in allegations against Biden amplify efforts (read “Republicans Pounce”) to question his behavior.”
Boy, I hope the headline writer warmed up before that bit of verbal gymnastics, otherwise, is he going to be sore today.
But this is how it works, no?
When Republicans are accused, the story is that a Republican was accused.
When Democrats are accused, the story is “Republicans Pounce,” or, their other favorite: “Republicans seize.”
They never just report the news when a Democrat is the center of a scandal.
Governor Black Face of Virginia is on video explaining how a baby will be kept comfortable while its mother and her doctor decide whether or not to let it die.
Sounds insane, no?
But how did the Washington Post frame the story?
After an illegal alien abducted and murdered Mollie Tibbetts, how did the WaPo frame the story?
And when Beto O’Rourke proudly proclaimed, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15,” The WaPo spun it this way:
I’m guessing the “Republicans Pounce” or “Seize” rubric is enshrined in the Washington Post’s style manual.
Ironically, the WaPo actually published an editorial “debunking” the “oversold ‘Republicans pounce’ complaint.” Because apparently Republicans were pouncing on the “Republicans Pounce” story framing so much, the WaPo had to pounce on it.
So is anyone actually surprised that, in order to dispel the notion that the Washington Post relies on the “Republicans Pounce” theme that they would twist themselves into a convoluted knot by rewording it in such a comical way when it comes to Biden’s rape allegation?
In fact, it was such a comical effort to downplay their own “Republicans Pounce” story framing, people on Twitter, well, pounced on it.
In response to the Twitter pouncing, the Washington Post pounced to rewrite the headline.
But don’t worry. They maintained the central “Republicans Pounce” narrative:
“Trump allies highlight new claims regarding allegations against Biden.”
“Trump allies highlight” = “Republicans pounce.”
Remember that nauseatingly stupid, navel-gazing Super Bowl ad the Washington Post ran back in 2019? Sure you do, because, well, we pounced on it.
But in case some of you don’t…
“Knowing helps us decide”
Sure Jan. Unless of course it is “knowing” about the allegations against Dirty Digit Joe Biden. Then, “knowing” doesn’t help because “knowing” just might hurt old pervy Joe. Which is why, instead of “knowing” we get “Republicans pouncing.”
At this point, expecting our garbage news media to address the allegations against Joe Biden without the requisite “Republicans pounce” is a fool’s errand. As it is, they are barely addressing the allegations at all — except to claim there is no “corroboration” and it’s totally different from the claims made against Kavanaugh because reasons.
Joe Biden himself, despite his many interviews on national and local news outlets, has yet to be directly asked by a single reporter about Tara Reade’s allegation against him.
But then again, when have reporters ever pounced on stories that could potentially hurt a Democrat?
