Last night President Trump held a rally in Washington, Michigan.
Meanwhile, the so-called “Free Press” gathered in the other Washington to “celebrate the First Amendment.”
Their job, if they chose to accept it, was to show the country that they hold journalism and objectivity in high regard. In other words, their job was to prove unequivocally that they are not the meanspirited “Fake News” that Donald Trump accuses them of being.
They had one job.
And they failed miserably.
Here’s the bottom line.
For the Democrats to actually have this so-called “Blue Wave,” Republicans have to stay home on election day.
And for that to happen, the Democrats and the press each have one job:
1. Democrats have to stop acting insane.
2. And the news media has stop being the hateful slags Mr. Trump says they are.
That’s all it would take.
They each have one job.
And each are incapable of doing it.
Now, to be fair, I would venture to guess that very few Americans actually sat down and watched this White House Correspondents Dinner.
I certainly didn’t.
But because of social media, even those who avoided it can’t avoid the aftermath.
And the aftermath has been nearly as ugly as the comedienne they hired for “entertainment.”
When even Clinton-loving reporters are aghast at last night’s embarrassing event, you know it’s bad.
That @PressSec sat and absorbed intense criticism of her physical appearance, her job performance, and so forth, instead of walking out, on national television, was impressive.

Unfortunately, I don't think we advanced the cause of journalism tonight.

Michelle Wolf didn’t fail just because she was (spectacularly) one-sided. It was because she was unnecessarily cruel on a night the WHCA was trying to showcase decency and purpose.
Undermined an otherwise meaningful night.

The results are in, and nobody was impressed.
I think @PressSec unflinching gaze at Michelle Wolf was the most interesting thing about the event, which is intended to honor the First Amendment but in fact mocked the values of civil society so thoroughly as to stun even the cynical reporters. The honest ones will admit it.

Michelle Wolf's performance being panned by all sides. Angry, deeply personal & not clever is what passes for comedy in 2018 as seen elsewhere. But don't blame her completely, blame the folks who did the vetting here & decided it was a fine idea to provide her that kind of stage.

If the #WHCD dinner did anything tonight, it made the chasm between journalists and those who don't trust us, even wider. And those of us based in the red states who work hard every day to prove our objectivity will have to deal with it.

They had one job.
And they failed!
The woke media spent the weekend covering for homophobic jokes from one of their own and laughed at the Press Sec being called a lesbian. ?

By inviting that comedienne then proceeding to laugh at her vile and inappropriate comments they are only going to embolden Republicans even more.
And again they validate every criticism President Trump has leveled against the so-called “news” media.
I was in the room. Sick to watch so many “journalists” laugh along as Wolf attacked Sarah Sanders. Sarah showed courage by keeping her cool #WHCD

i wish they had a WHCD every week. the damage these cranks do to themselves is profound, and they can't even see it.

After tonight’s WHCD debacle, the GOP message until November should be “They Hate You,” featuring nothing but clips of Hillary/Schumer/Pelosi/Colleges/Media mocking and attacking heartland voters. “They hate you and want to control you. Don’t let them win.”

Now, I don’t expect the modern news media to make an effort to regain some semblance of journalistic integrity.
My bar was not anywhere near that high.
But they had an opportunity to prove the President wrong – to show the country that Trump’s criticisms of them were unfounded and that they are not an enemy of the people.
And that one job was just too much to expect from them.
But I do want to thank the Washington press.
I know that you believe that your actual job is to so completely dispirit Trump supporters and Republican voters so that they stay home in November.
But last night, by behaving like the hateful, biased cretins you are, you even failed at that.
