A disturbed, bullied young man shot and killed ten people at a high school in Texas yesterday.
No, I’m not showing his picture of even giving you his name.
If we really want these events to stop, we must do two things:
1. Stop making schools soft targets.
2. And stop making media celebrities out of these troubled teens.
After Parkland, I pointed out what is painfully obvious:
I guarantee you that the next screwed-up guy who fantasizes about committing mass murder is eagerly devouring this coverage like it’s porn.
Because it is porn; it’s downright pornographic.
The future monster-in-the-making is scrolling through Twitter greedily feeding off the anger, the sorrow – and most importantly the attention yesterday’s murderer is getting.
Sorry, folks. The NRA is not emboldening the next mass murderer.
Cable news outlets, television and print news, the sputtering celebrities, hysterical politicians and potty-mouthed “comedians,” are.
Hell, even the people who go on social media to argue with all those idiots are emboldening him.
And the more constant the coverage, the more emboldened this killer-in-the-making becomes.
And here we are again.
An emboldened killer-in-the-making has become a killer.
And once again, people are circling overhead like hungry vultures promoting every last detail of the shooting in Santa Fe.
Again, from my column after Parkland:
Make no mistake about this. Every news outlet is celebrating a mass murderer.
Sure, they would never say that’s what they’re doing.
But an unknown, unstable nobody is today a household name – a celebrity. And what is a celebrity but somebody who is celebrated?
So don’t let them fool you. They are celebrating this murderer.
And the next crazy little psycho who wants payback is watching all of this and salivating.
Forget guns. Forget the NRA.
If we really wanted to stop mass murder from happening, we would stop covering them like they’re the Olympics.
I’ve been ignoring the news reports on Santa Fe.
I don’t need to see pictures of this disturbed young man. And I don’t need to “learn more about the Santa Fe shooter.”
All of this is ghoulish and irresponsible.
And the exploitation of this tragic event is particularly disgusting.
Like, say, from Hillary Clinton.
Every day that we fail to act on gun violence, we are failing our children. This should be a day for soul searching across America – and that soul searching should be matched with legislating to begin dealing with this national shame.

From Hillary Clinton?
This is the woman who has spent the last eighteen months pointing fingers at everybody else for her own miserable campaign.
What does Hillary Clinton know about soul searching?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be lectured on soul searching from a woman so lacking in self-reflection. It’s like getting nutrition advice from a morbidly obese man eating six Big Macs while he does it.
And I find it especially perverse coming from someone who lashes out at those she hates – even to the point where folks end up dead “from an apparent suicide” or a “robbery gone bad.”
Hillary Clinton might lack stamina and endurance.
But when it comes to clinging to grudges and resentments, she’s downright indefatigable.
As the expression goes, “Physician, heal thyself.”
Instead of lecturing America on soul-searching, perhaps Hillary should take some time out from her worldwide bitterness tour and tend to her own soul.
The fact is, I would no more heed Hillary Clinton’s calls for soul-searching than I would take fashion advice from her.
As Donald Trump wisely said of Hillary during the first debate, “When you try to act holier than thou, it really doesn’t work.”
