When idiots swarm

Like most of you I watched the mob swarm the Capitol yesterday. And holy crap, was it an absolute disaster.

In the evening I started writing a post about it, but midway through, thought better of it and sent the document to the trash folder.

When something this big unfolds, I hold with the “wait until morning” rule before writing anything.

Two reasons for that:

First, reports are flying like bats and it is often difficult to separate the truth from speculation.

Second, writing out of reactionary emotion might be cathartic, but it isn’t productive.

There was already plenty of reactionary emotion flying around. No need to add to it in the heat of the moment.

So here we are the morning after. I slept on it. Though, not as much as I wanted. I woke up at three this morning already mulling over what I wanted to write.

The upshot of my thinking is simple. When idiots swarm the Capitol, I don’t care if they’re Antifa, BLM, the harpies of the Women’s March, Q-followers, Lin Wood saps or genuine MAGA. They’re all idiots. And their actions are stupid and wildly counter-productive.

If you want to destroy the America First movement, this is how you do it. Swarm the US Capitol and hand the Trump-hating media the perfect “Trump Supporters are Terrorists” narrative gift-wrapped on a silver platter.

Great work, team!

I can hear it now, “But, but, but Dianny! It was a false flag operation! These weren’t real Trump supporters!”

You think that matters?

What world do you live in?

I may want a world where our news media reports the truth in an objective and unbiased way. But that isn’t the world we live in.

Every last moron who smashed his way into the Capitol will be labeled a Trump supporter whether he is or isn’t. You can provide evidence gleaned from facial recognition software showing that Antifa was behind this, and still the media will report “Trump Mob Swarms Capitol.”

Is it likely that Antifa was involved? I’d say there’s a very good probability that’s the case. Antifa always shows up when Trump supporters rally in DC. So the odds that this time they stayed away are slim to none.

But the reality is this swarm wasn’t exclusively Antifa.

He goes by the name Baked Alaska and he’s one of the tiki torch clowns from Charlottesville.

(Some have claimed the guy in the background is Nick Fuentes, but that has been disputed. Fuentes himself posted photos from yesterday to show it wasn’t him. I don’t point this out because I feel the need to white knight for that asshole; I do it because I want to be truthful and separate speculation from fact. If we had an objective press, you’d all recognize this behavior without me having to explain.)

The Air Force veteran who was shot and killed by a Capitol Hill police officer while she tried to crawl through a broken window was a Trump supporter whose Twitter timeline is filled with retweets of Lin Wood’s insane musings.

So while Antifa might have played a part in the swarm, they weren’t the only idiots there. And rationalizing that it was all Antifa is a pointless and dishonest exercise.

Now some of you might be thinking, “But Dianny! This is nowhere near as bad as the BLM riots this summer! And what about the swarm of idiots who flooded into the Capitol during the Kavanaugh hearing!!!”

Yes, you’re right.

The riots this summer, along with the riots during Trump’s Inauguration, were far more destructive than yesterday. I absolutely agree.

What happened yesterday isn’t a one-off in the least.

Let me give you an example:

But again, we live in a world where the news media will be as hypocritical as the Women’s March. During the Kavanaugh hearings, the media celebrated the idiots who descended on the Capitol in a swarm. Ditto for their #SwarmTheCapitol during the impeachment trial.

The media cheered on and even gave airtime to the dimwitted harpies who trapped Jeff Flake in that elevator. There were no breathless histrionics about domestic terrorism or “undermining our democracy.”

I could post tons of examples showing that this isn’t the first time people have descended on the Capitol. But it won’t make a damn bit of difference to how this will be reported in the news.

We have to operate in that reality. And in reality these “but what about” arguments will fall on deaf ears. The media will not care, nor will they widely report it. What’s more, too many Americans will simply believe the narrative that the news media (and the politicians) will put out about what happened yesterday.

Why do you think two out of three Democrats still believe Trump conspired with Putin to steal the 2016 election? Why do you think so many Americans still believe that Trump suggested drinking bleach? Or the “Trump called Nazis ‘very fine people’” hoax?

The news media narrative about what happened yesterday has already been chiseled in stone. And years from now, these idiots will be described as “domestic terrorists” “incited by Trump” to “destroy our democracy.”

The same thing goes for pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians and pundits when it comes to what riots are “peaceful” and “necessary” and what riots are “domestic terrorism.”

If we had a news media that prided itself on being objective and truthful, these kinds of arguments would be extremely effective.

But we don’t, so they aren’t.

Now I could write an “I told you so” column about all my warnings to the Left, the media and politicians about normalizing and enabling mob violence. In fact, I could be downright profound on the subject.

I could say that spending four years vilifying and marginalizing normal Americans because of their political beliefs will only radicalize them. This is the very point Jack Buckby makes in his book Monster of Their Own Making. When I reviewed that book in November, some scoffed at the idea that people on the Right could ever become radicalized like people on the Left.

Well, if anything, the swarm descending on the Capitol proved Jack Buckby was right.

Finally, the biggest tactical error yesterday that played right into the media’s hands came from President Trump.

I texted this to my brother yesterday around 5:00 pm:

”It was an enormous tactical error for Trump to both promote then speak at the rally today. Not because the bulk of the rally-goers are to blame for the violence. But because any idiot could have told you violence was going to happen. Now Trump has hitched his wagon to the violent idiots who stormed the Capitol. In one afternoon, Trump undid all the positive things he accomplished in the last four years.”

Now, I realize saying that is going to piss some of you off. But as I’ve said before, it isn’t my job to tell you what you want to hear. My job is to speak honestly.

And here’s the blunt truth. Today we wake up to a country where Donald Trump is once again under threat of impeachment. Cabinet members are allegedly considering invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office before January 20th.

The newly sworn in Black Lives Matter Congresswoman from Missouri introduced a resolution to expel any Republican members of Congress who voted against certifying the election results claiming they “incited a domestic terror attack.”

Are these proper reactions?

Are they out of proportion?

Again, does it matter?

We have to operate in the reality in which we live.

No matter what his intention, thanks to the media narrative and the histrionics from members of Congress, Trump will go down in history as the sore loser who incited a mob to swarm the US Capitol in an effort to “overthrow our democracy.”

Sure, you can blame it on “Fake News.” But Donald Trump’s own choices yesterday sure as hell didn’t help him or (more importantly) the future of the America First Movement.

And no amount of “But Hillary’s supporters rioted in cities after she lost” arguments will change what the media and politicians will make of this.

This is exactly why, two days after the election, I offered this friendly advice:

I’m not saying don’t be angry. Be angry. But be smart. Never let anyone know what you’re thinking. Don’t give them ammunition; instead, keep your powder dry.

Yesterday, the idiots swarming the Capitol gave the media and the anti-America First politicians more ammunition than they could ever hope for.

And all that ammunition is being turned on us.

Big Tech will crack down so hard on conservatives, it’ll make our teeth rattle.

Trump himself has been suspended from Twitter over his tweets from yesterday afternoon. And the next time one of his tweets violates their capricious terms of service, he will be permanently banned.

Politicians will use what happened yesterday as a pretext for limiting free speech and freedom of assembly – and boy, did they get the perfect pretense for coming after our 2nd Amendment.

What’s worse, the media will triple-down on vilifying and marginalizing the working class voters who made up Trump’s base. That, in turn, will only further radicalize them.

The people who swarmed the Capitol yesterday will absolutely face jail time – unlike the BLM/Antifa rioters who burned and looted their way through DC this summer. And that disparity in “justice” will only anger and radicalize normal Americans even further.

There is no deescalating this; it’s a runaway train at this point.

And thanks in part to this swarm of idiots wanting to #StopTheSteal, the chance of Congress taking any steps to prevent future voter fraud is now at zero. Whereas the chance of Congress cracking down on our Liberties just got a great big boost.

And if you think I’m overstating things, keep in mind what our elected officials have gotten away with in the name of “keeping us safe” from a virus. Do you think these people will hesitate to use the full force of government to crack down on those they are openly calling “domestic terrorists?”

There is no net benefit from yesterday’s madness. None.

What happened in the Capitol on January 6, 2021 will reverberate through the country in ways that will chill us to the bone.

But, hey. At least they got to take cool selfies in Pelosi’s office!

    What bothers me is that when the left goes on riots they have nothing to fear. There would be no kickback, no punishment, and no repercussions.

    When the right does something like this, they have to always live in fear of the punishment that awaits them.

    So people on the Right can’t effectively do anything. We can’t protest, we can’t vote, we can’t voice our opinions or else the big tech will ban us.

    Trump should abandon Twitter and go to an independent site, or else he is a coward in my book.

    This is definitely a dark day in our History. I do not have hope for the future. I’ll believe it when I see it.
    I do know that people like this won’t go away and it will get worse should they succeed in removing Trump with the 25th Amendment.

    All I wanted was for a fair and honest election.
    To hell with the Republican Party, they are completely useless. They only serve the Democrats anymore.
    The United States has lost its legitimacy, we now have an illegitimate president and soon to be another illegitimate president in a few years.

      The 25th Amendment’s section on impeachment only refers to if the president either can’t or won’t execute his duties. That just flat out does not apply.

    I agreed with the protest – up to the capitol steps.
    Dems planned our doom when biden got the primary (poor bernie, cheated again.) and then they committed election fraud and the GOP said, ‘whatevs’.
    No protests, calm or otherwise, patriot or BLantifa would have stopped them certifying.
    Nothing we do/did would have changed anything. The media is the media. That is all.

    The states themselves have to fix their election laws. Georgia and PA are attempting to now.
    There’s always ’22, I guess. I can’t wait to see who I am given to vote for.
    And in the meantime, let’s hope president kamchatka and cocaine Mitch will be merciful. lol.

    You can wring your hands and worry about our ‘reputations’ as law abiding conservatives, but at some point we are going to have to resort to civil disobedience and likely violence, to save this Republic. The time for playing nice is gone. Our election was stolen. Our Constitution is worthless. Our ‘elected’ representatives are nothing more than corrupted opportunists who care not a whit about this country. We are at a similar point today in our history as the Founding Fathers were when they declared our independence from their British overlords. Not everybody is going to like it. In fact most probably won’t. But that is where we are at. Like it or not.

      I’m kinda hoping the first battle starts in CA against their own legislature.
      After everything they are put through, they’re now openly advertising their state-sponsored speech-watch website. They’re copy/pasting ‘dangerous’ comments and then deciding whether to go after the commenter. Buzzwords are ‘climate’, ‘vaccine’, ‘corona’, ‘fraud’, ‘newsom’…

          It isn’t what they think that concerns me. It is what they will do. What they’re already starting to do. There will be terrible consequences to this. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I don’t give a crap what these assholes think. But I do care very much about what kind of equal and opposite reaction is headed our way.

          “After calls from flight attendants to ban insurrectionists from flights out of DC, the House Homeland Security Committee is now asking the FBI and TSA to add perpetrators to the no-fly list.”

          This is what I mean. They’re already starting. They have all the pretext they want to crack down. And it won’t just be the government. Corporations, banks, Big Tech, mortgage companies — you name it — they will all join in.

          How many of those who rushed into the Capitol were prepared for or even considered what the blowback would be?

    There are only so many times you can “turn the other cheek”. What’s the suggestion here? Vote them out? LOL. Yeah, we see how that works now. And as for the media demonizing us (the right), they’ve been doing that for over 5 years. As evidenced by my reading your blog, we have other means of information now. Your blanching over the false flag of antifa causing the violence because the media will blame us anyway is a tremendous grasp of the obvious (h/t Cosell).

    OK, Patriot Retort, you’ve stated your reasons for objection to the Capitol breach. Not everyone agrees, etc. But more important; what is your suggested path forward in a situation where rallies don’t work, protests don’t work, writing to the representatives doesn’t work, and now not even voting works?

      The truth is, the only solution that springs to mind is what I suggested back in 2015 — a national divorce. We have reached the point where we are no longer one nation. The differences are, to use divorce terms, irreconcilable. If we want to avoid a civil war, we need to part ways before war the only option.

        These guys are using words like “eradicate” and “cleanse.” How do we reunify with people like that? Why would we want to? This has been bubbling beneath the surface for years. It didn’t start with Trump. And it won’t end when Trump is out of office. That much is certain. Better we find a way to split without bloodshed, or bloodshed we will have.

        One final thought, “What now?”

        Locking down the country, driving people out of their jobs, forcing them into bankruptcy all for a virus that has a 99% survival rate was the single stupidest thing to do to a nation so divided. People were already angry. Now because of Pandemic Panic-mongering, they are past the point of reason. But they were so focused on damaging Trump, they didn’t care. What makes yesterday so mind-bogglingly stunning is the media and politicians really don’t believe their bear some responsibility for what happened. But then again, they’ve never been very good at taking responsibility for their actions to begin with, so I don’t know why I found it stunning.

          Far from stupid, the lockdowns are the Democrat dream come true. The lockdowns funneled trillions into the pockets of the crony capitalists in bed with the Democrats, funneled most social and business interaction online to platforms controlled by Democrat supporters, and are destroying those most likely to possess the drive to fight back, the small business owners and entrepreneurs. All while destroying the hated Trump economy. Take responsibility for their actions? Not in public; but I bet the Swamp and their media minions are high-five-ing in board rooms across the nation. I don’t buy for one minute that all these actions are not both purposeful and malicious. But that’s OK; we’ll just vote them out…….oh, yeah….never mind.

        OK, but what is the path forward? Do you honestly think that all the leech states are just going to wave goodbye while the producer states up and “leave”. Where do you draw the borders? (Heck, HOW do you draw the borders?!) There are essentially a dozen large metropolitan areas that are the tail wagging the national dog. Also, the Swamp has no intention or reason to allow individual liberty to guide the path of anyone. Every time their useful idiots abandon an area because of failed Democrat policies, they just start to pollute the areas they move to by supporting the same failed ideology they left! Who is the voice to lead and what is the process to reign in a federal government that has used the last 100 years to wrest individual liberty from the lives of its citizens?

            Oh, I definitely do not have the answers. And I’m not sure the folks who stormed the Capitol were right. I DO know that the Tea Party rallies were respectful to the point that they even cleaned up their own trash, and that whole movement was mocked and marginalized into non-existence. I feel your article harshly condemned the Capitol storming protestors; but without offering an effective alternative, that criticism isn’t constructive. In a world where no matter WHAT conservatives do is wrong, maybe the outcome of these various tactics needs to be judged over time. But I’m sure that the Democrats win in part because they gloss-over and close ranks no matter how egregious the behavior of any member of their fold. Every time conservatives try to hold the moral high ground, they end up swallowed by the Swamp.

            I expect a lot of people do disagree with me. One of the consequences of trying to examine something this emotional in a rational way is many are not ready to think rationally because they’re still responding emotionally. But the truth is, there is a big picture here. This action will have long-term, harmful consequences for the very people unwilling to think about that right now. I took the bullet and chose to think about it knowing full well it will mean this unchecked anger will be directed my way.

          So in “when idiots swarm” the theme I garnered from that piece is FALL IN LINE as there is no other way to stop the madness. [That’s not the theme of the column, you nitwit — Dianny] My take: and full disclosure; I do possess a diploma from a government school so maybe im not edumacated enough to grasp things properly.

          Falling in line or taking the high road has been tried repeatedly in the past by our “conservative” elected officials…to no avail. Their response to the ol Heisman stiff arm with respect to moving the needle was ‘if ya can’t beat em join em’

          The result of all this has been to accelerate the move to abandon the righteous ship for the free for all shit show we find ourselves in.

          This won’t stick….. history will repeat itself.

          The difference between America and Venezuela, Cuba, China etc…IS this: they didn’t have the ultimate system of checks and balances when they brought the “full power of the government ” to rain down compliance on the people. America, because our founders/designers were regular Joe’s but really smart, fashioned 1 thing into this document we all want to destroy called the constitution …and that is the 2nd amendment.

          So in order for full fledged submission…the Govvys gotta take the arms away…. they will at some try it…however it will be impossible to stop the inevitable because the people have NO TRUST OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT/KLEPROCRATS. Its also important to note that when the proverbial caca hits the fan it will be a very lopsided victory for the people because they have numbers and they have the passion. (Passion x competence = success rate)
          The lefts paid for MERCINARIES will fold like deck chairs when they actually face an opposition.

    I strongly disagree with your opinion expressed in your article. The majority of the people who stormed the Capital were respectful MAGA supporters. There were a few bad actors, including ANTIFA, BLM, nuts, etc. that were in the crowd.

    They were frustrated and acted out like the other half of the country like we all have seen in the past couple of years.

    The young lady’s death by the law enforcement shooter was totally avoidable and unnecessary. My prayers are with her and her family.

    Any old how, I can go on and on so, “Lighten Up Baby, I’m in Love with You”.

    Hi, Dianny. This column is, as always, well reasoned and wonderfully executed. But I disagree. I think the reason for the disagreement between like-minded people regarding the incursion into the Capitol yesterday is based on different views on where we see our nation today and, based on that, how to proceed.

    One position seems to believe that we should continue strategizing as we always have as if we still have any say or power over our government. The other position (mine) is that we have been totally stripped of all of our rights as citizens and we can only proceed with violence, all other avenues having been closed off to us with the end of real elections.

    A separation would be nice, but I have given it a lot of thought and do not believe that it is feasible. The Leftist side will invite rule by the Communist Chinese and there will be war anyway. The Leftist side will blame all of their ills on the normal side and there will be war anyway. The Leftist side would still hate us and want to kill us and there will be war anyway.

    The patriots (not Antifa and BLM who were there only to destroy and incite) who went into the peoples’ house yesterday may be seen at some later date as those who instigated the Boston Tea Party and the many other acts of civil disobedience leading up to the Revolutionary War.

    Everything said about them by the enemy today mirrors what was said about the patriots back then by the Brits and Loyalists.

    I see no way that this nation will not have war one way or the other in the next decade or so. It will not end well for the former United States, but Evil is in charge now everywhere we look and it cannot be mitigated by tactics based upon how we are portrayed in the press.

    This is all moot is we allow ourselves to be disarmed. Then it is just hello Venezuela.

    I guess I have been radicalized.

    In Congress, July 4, 1776

    The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

    “When Idiots Storm” indeed. I thought at times I was reading an editorial from The New York Times. To say I’m disappointed is quite the understatement.

      I see. So you were there. I’m glad someone who actually was there finally responded.

      So if I understand your comment correctly, the plan on Wednesday was to submit to Congress a written declaration of the long train of abuses and usurpations that you guys spent months writing and rewriting until you all agreed and signed it. See, I thought there was no plan. I thought it was just to mob the Capitol because Pence wouldn’t descend from heaven like a God in the Machine and save the day and you were pissed.

      But if that’s not why you were there. If you went to the Capitol and smashed through door windows in order to crawl through and present this declaration to Congress, I stand corrected. Though, in hindsight, I do think it might have been more successful if you selected just one person to deliver your declaration instead of a mob of people. But that’s probably just me being a Monday morning revolutionary.

      (It is interesting how similar this “we’re just like the Patriots of the Revolutionary War” meme is to Antifa’s “We’re just like the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy.”)

      You compared me to the New York Times. Did you think that would bring out the best in me? Were you expecting a fruit basket in response? You compared me to the freaking New York Times.
