WikiLeaks: Hillary Clinton’s special world

WikiLeaks has released the next round of Podesta emails, and I am dutifully combing through them right now.

One of them popped out at me, not because it’s particularly explosive, but because it’s especially telling.

When it comes to running a campaign, working for Hillary Clinton is going to give you a whole set of variables no other reputable candidate has to deal with.

Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook clearly realized that when the New York Times first broke the story about Hillary’s private email server back in March 2015.

In an email chain between Mook and Podesta when the story was about to break, Podesta asks Mook:

Did you have any idea of the depth of this story?

Mook responds:

Nope. We brought up the existence of emails in reserach [sic] this summer but were told that everything was taken care of.

Several hours later, Mook adds this:

This is the problem with having big chunks of research locked away…we just don’t know what’s going to be coming at us. I worry we’re going to get out on a limb on certain issues (perfect example: equal pay) and not realize how hypocritical we might look later.

Poor guy. He actually thought Hillary’s public and private positions would be the worst thing about this email scandal. Boy, was he in for a shock.

Moving on:

I hate to sound like we’re trying to get into all her dirty laundry and I completely understand all the sensitivities, but this is the big leagues and we need comms and reserach experts preparing us.
 
Consultants are all a flutter as you can imagine!
 
But I know that this is a special world we live in…

Yes, that is the special world of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Where secrets are kept locked up tighter than Lady Hamilton’s virtue.

Where skeletons pile up behind hermetically-sealed closet doors. And nobody knows what scandal lurks, waiting to strike.

Where even Hillary’s own campaign manager is kept in the dark about a looming catastrophe that can potentially destroy her Presidential aspirations.

This is Hillary Clinton’s special world.

As I mentioned in a post yesterday, there are two camps within the Clinton campaign.

There are the die-hard Hillary devotees who are used to Hillary’s special world.

And then there are the campaign hires who learn the hard way that when it comes to a Clinton, the standard operating procedures one expects in running a Presidential campaign just won’t apply.
